Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) will conduct Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED) 2018 on May 5 for offering admissions to Communication Design, Fashion Communication, Industrial Design, and Fashion Design. As the exam is nearing, Careers360 interviewed Mr. K. Prasanna, Assistant Professor, SID to bring out preparation tips for the aspirants. In this conversation, he also shares the most important topics from which questions will be asked. Read the interview to know about the basic qualities that are required for cracking SEED.

Careers360: How many aspirants appear for the design entrance test every year?
Mr. Prasanna: For our design entrance exam, we receive approximately 1500 applications every year for a total of over 200 seats (Indian plus international).
Careers360: For design programmes, how has been the application trend?
Mr. Prasanna: From last few years,design has emerged as a promising field. Keeping in mind its vast professional opportunities, there is an increasing trend among creative minds towards pursuing design as a career. Consequently, the number of applicants willing to appear for our design entrance exam is also growing every year.
Careers360: Will any other institute apart from SID accept the scorecard of Symbiosis Entrance Exam for Design (SEED) 2018 for admissions?
Mr. Prasanna: No, the admission procedure will be held only for Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID). Admissions will solely be offered on merit basis.
Careers360: What are the basic necessities to crack SEED 2018 with a good score?
Mr. Prasanna:The most crucial requirements for aspirants are basic knowledge of design, good observation skill, creative thinking capability, and confidence in interactions. If a candidate has these qualities, then it will be helpful for him/her to crack the entrance test with flying colors.
Careers360: What are some of the most important topics?
Mr. Prasanna: The most important ones are visual communication, typography and publication, branding and advertising, aesthetic sense, user study, video film design, animation for 2D and 3D films, special effects, product knowledge, ergonomics, fashion styling, fashion illustration, production technology, garment construction, and pattern making.
Careers360: After completing the undergraduate design programme at the Institute, what are the various career prospects for students?
Mr. Prasanna: Various design studios recruit our students as visualizer, design strategy planner, brand manager, fashion marketeer, merchandiser, product designer, exhibition designer, interior space designer, graphic designer, etc. Apart from these, they can also become entrepreneurs and start their own venture.
Careers360: What are some of the pre-requirements for appearing in SEED?
Mr. Prasanna: First of all, candidates must have good sketching and creativity skills. They have to be keen observers. Awareness about innovation, art, and model making is equally important.
Careers360: What is a studio test?
Mr. Prasanna: In this test, students need to transfer their creative idea and interpretation in visual form as well as in 3D with the given set of materials.
Careers360: What kind of questions will be asked during personal interaction?
Mr. Prasanna: Candidates will be questioned on their interest areas and knowledge of the chosen specialization. Their portfolio will also be evaluated. Moreover, their design application skills will also be tested on the spot.
