NID DAT Eligibility
Question- Does NID consider the score of National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) considered for the Design Aptitude Test?
Answer- The NATA score is not taken into account for the DAT. Applicants are required to appear for the design entrance test.
Question- What is the selection procedure for undergraduate admissions at NID?
Answer- The selection procedure for admissions to Bachelor of Design programmes comprises of two stages- Prelims and Mains. Only those candidates, who are shortlisted after the DAT Prelims, are invited to appear for the second stage.
NID DAT Application Procedure
Question- Where and how a candidate has to submit the NID DAT application form?
Answer- He/shewill be required to fill the online application. The fee has to be paid in online mode via credit card/debit card, and a printout should be taken for future reference. Only those applicants, who have made payment of application fee via demand draft, have to send a printout of their application form along with the DD via courier/speed post to the address given below:

Question- How a candidate will get admit card of NID DAT?
Answer- Candidates will have to download the NID DAT admit card in online mode only for DAT prelims as well as mains. It is completely their responsibility to download and print it.
Question- Why is Design Aptitude Test conducted?
Answer- DAT is conducted by National Institute of Design to seek evidence of the attitude, aptitude, achievement, motivation and perception essential in a potential student of design. The exam will be held in two stages- Prelims and Mains.
Question- Why DAT Mains is held? How important is it?
Answer- Candidates will be called to appear in the Mains, the second stage of DAT, on the basis of their obtained scores in Prelims (first stage). A final list will be generated by NID on the basis of the sum total of the weighted scores secured by the candidate in each stage of the admissions process.
Question- Can a candidate choose the exam centre from where he/she wants to take the exam?
Answer- At the time of submitting online application form of NID DAT prelims, an applicant can select a test centre of his/her choice. However, the institute reserves the right to remove or add any of these centres and allocate a centre that may not be of the candidate’s choice.
Question- Is the Design Aptitude Test same for Indian as well as overseas applicants?
Answer- Yes, the DAT Prelims is common for all the applicants for undergraduate design admissions.
Question- Is there any waiver for the prelims?
Answer- No, there is no waiver for that.
Question- What if a candidates is staying abroad and can’t appear for the prelim?
Answer- It is compulsory for all the candidates, including those staying abroad, to appear for the aptitude test.
Question- Can a student apply for NID admissions more than once?
Answer- Yes, a student can appear for DAT for an unlimited number of attempts provided he/she fulfills the prescribed eligibility criteria.
Question- Is there any other test that is considered substitute for the prelim exam?
Answer- No, there is no test that works as an alternative for DAT prelim.
Question- What is the exam pattern of NID DAT prelim exam?
Answer- Students will be given three hours to complete a 100-marks paper. It will comprise both objective and subjective type questions.
Question- Does NID has tie-up with any bank for financial aid to provide education loans?
Answer- No, the institute does not have tie-up with any bank. You have to approach banks directly for any kind of education loan or financial help.
Question- Are there any scholarships available?
Answer- Limited number of scholarships are provided by NID to financially deserving candidates. Detailed information about the scholarships can be obtained after successful admission admission to the institute.
Question- Is an international candidate eligible to apply for financial aid from India?
Answer- No, international candidates are not eligible for any financial aid from any Indian agency. They will have to seek financial help from their own country.
Question- Does NID Ahmedabad campus provide hostel facilities?
Answer- Yes, hostel facilities are provided but it varies for undergraduate students, and from campus to campus.
Question- Does the institute assist its students with out-of-campus accommodation?
Answer- National Institute of Design does not aid students in seeking out-of-campus accommodation. They have to arrange their outside campus stay on their own.
Question- Are there any special arrangements for international students?
Answer- The rules of residence are same for Indian as well as international students.
Question- Which facilities are provided in the hostel room?
Answer- The hostel room has a bed, desk, chair and storage space for each student. Students have to make arrangements of their own bedding and personal items on their own.
Question- Will an Indian student, who has studied in Saudi Arabia from class 9 to 12, be considered an overseas or foreign student?
Answer- Only foreign nationals, i.e., those who hold citizenship of any country other than Republic of India, are eligible to apply under the overseas category.
Question- Which visa is applicable to attend the DAT prelim when applying from abroad?
Answer- A tourist visa is required. However, you are advised to check with the Indian embassy in your domicile country for specific visa requirement for entering India.
Question- Which kind of visa is needed for studying at NID?
Answer- A valid student visa for the duration of the course will has to be obtained before beginning of the programme.
Question- What if there is a delay in the candidate’s visa process?
Answer- It is completely the candidate’s responsibility to obtain a valid visa before the course begins.
Question- When does the academic year begins at NID?
Answer- The academic session starts in the month of July.
Question- Does the candidate gets an acknowledgment after he/she submits the application form?
Answer- Yes, NID sends an acknowledgment via email on the registered email ID that the candidate has provided at the time of sign up.
Question-Can an aspirant visit the NID campus?
Answer-An aspirant can visit the campus from Monday to Friday between 9.30 am and 05.30 pm (except public holidays).
Question- Will a candidate get the fee refunded if he/she withdraws his/her application?
Answer- A candidate cannot withdraw his/her application after submitting it. The fee will not be refunded or transferred.
Question- Can someone joins NID halfway through the course?
Answer- No, NID does not allow admissions to students halfway through the course.
Question- Do recommendation letters help in any way?
Answer- NID does not accept or entertain recommendation letters. A candidate will get disqualified if he/she tries to influence the employees or management of the institute.
Question- Do international students get any special provision of medical facilities?
Answer- No, there is no such provisions for them. However, the doctors appointed by the institute are available on campus during weekdays.
Question- Does a student need to take the English proficiency test?
Answer- No, they do not require to take any English language proficiency test. However, the teaching medium is English only. Also, prelim and main are conducted in English only.
Question-Will a candidate be required to have the school documents translated if they are in his/her native language?
Answer-Yes, a candidate will have to get them translated.

Question- Can a student study part time at National Institute of Design?
Answer- No, the institute does not offer any part-time courses.
Question- Does the institute offer a four-year B.Des. course in Interior Design?
Answer- NID offers a 4-years’ undergraduate programme in Furniture & Interior Design only. It does not provide a separate course on Interior Design.
Question- Does the students of Ceramic & Glass discipline get to learn pottery?
Answer- Yes, they are taught pottery.
Question- Does NID offer any special summer courses?
Answer- Yes, the institute conducts summer workshops.
Question- Is the foundation programme for B.Design compulsory?
Answer- Those candidates, who are successfully admitted to the B.Des programmes, will be required to undergo a mandatory foundation course of one year duration. On the basis of students’ performance and total available seats in the desired discipline, a programme will be allocated to them at the end of the foundation course.

NID Design Aptitude Test is an exam through which aspirants are shortlisted for admission in UG and PG design courses offered at the prestigious NID campuses. Candidates need to clear two NID admission tests in order to be eligible for admission in Bachelor’s Graduate and Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) and other courses offered at its campuses . Earlier, NID offered admission in its five campuses through NID entrance exam. However, from 2019 onwards two more NID campuses, that is, NID Bhopal and NID Jorhat also started offering admission in GDPD course on the basis of NID admission test.
