National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is conducting its own entrance exam for offering admissions to a total of 2,370 seats across Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech) programmes. NIFT exam, a pen and paper-based admission test, is being held on January 21 across 32 cities in India for providing admissions across 16 campuses of the institute located in Chennai, New Delhi, Gandhinagar, Bhopal, Jodhpur, Kangra, Bhubaneshwar, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kannur, Raebareli, Shillong, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Patna and Srinagar. Nearly 22,000 candidates are expected to take the test.

Candidates seeking admissions to NIFT B.Des. programme have to appear for Creative Ability Test (CAT) as well as General Ability Test (GAT). For admission to B.F.Tech. programme, candidates will have to take GAT only. The national level fashion and design entrance exam is being conducted as per the following schedule-

NIFT 2018 written entrance test evaluates knowledge, skill and aptitude of the candidates for the programme opted. Questions are asked from English comprehension, quantitative ability, communication ability, analytical ability, and general knowledge & current affairs. Moreover, CAT judges the intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development and design ability of the candidate. An important aspect of the test is the creative and innovative use of colour and illustration skills.

NIFT has nothing to do with CAT or GAT. Those are the exams for MBA. NIFT is for admission in fashion courses.
The eligibilitiy is just marks of your 10th and intermediate. The main point is the candidate must have qualified both from a recognised board and must be having PCM as the compulsory subject.
The exam has an age limit to be 23 and there is 5 years relaxation for category reserved candidates.

I can't tell you the exact dates as it's not been announced officially yet but yes start date of NIFT 2020 online application is fourth week of October 2019 , so you will be able to fill the application form once it is released. Last date to fill NIFT application form 2020 will be fourth week of December 2019, so you need to make sure that you fill the form before the last date while National Institute of Fashion Technology will conduct NIFT entrance exam in third week of January 2020 in pen and paper based mode. NIFT entrance exam is a gateway for getting admission in bachelor’s courses in Design (B. Des.) and Fashion Technology (B.F. Tech.). Yes, you can get NIFT, Mumbai even if you gave your Entrance Exam in different centre. The centre of your entrance exam is no mode for the college you are given admission in. So don't worry. You will be getting the college according to your marks and rank.
