Reveal a new facade of campus life at NIFT Kannur!
Careers360: Describe your life at NIFT Kannur. What do you like the most in your campus?
Mayank: Life at NIFT Kannur is quite happening, and you can enjoy it to the fullest. There are various places inside the campus where you can spend your free time. You can see the real beauty of Kannur from top of the building. The campus is highly spacious, and we can sit anywhere with friends to have a chit-chat or work on our course projects.
Careers360: How do you divide your weekly time between your studies and other activities?
Mayank: Generally, we have classes from Monday to Friday (9 am to 5.30 pm). Every week we get new timetable, and according to that we plan our schedule. If we have any deadline to submit a project, then either we complete it on weekends or during free lectures. If we have interest in any other activity like exercising in gym or running, etc., then we give time to it after our college (as there is no hostel for boys, and hence no restrictions). Studying during night is normal for every NIFTian.
Careers360: How do you get to know about the latest happenings in the institute? Is there any in-house magazine or something else for that?
Mayank: NIFT Kannur has its own system called CMS (Centralised Management System), from which we get to know about the latest happenings. Also, we have Gmail accounts given by the institute where we receive information about current happenings. Notice boards and leaders of different clubs circulate the news inside whole college. We can find information about the latest happenings from posters in canteen also.
Careers360: Which are the various clubs and societies there? Are you part of any? Do you think they are beneficial for the students?
Mayank: We have different clubs in our college like sports club, eco club, literary club, cultural club and tourism club. A part of sports club, I am a Sports Treasurer, and my duty is to keep track of requirement of any sport equipment. If a student has any need regarding this, then they inform me first. I have to tell Sports Club Leader about this, who notifies Joint Director. All the clubs are highly beneficial to students. The activities are very helpful in diverting our mind from stress. The clubs are a great source of our rejuvenation.
Careers360: Are there any regular events that take place in your campus? How is the participation of students on such occasions?
Mayank: There are various events that take place here annually. Spectrum is one of these. Also, this year we introduced Najariya, which is specially for foundation programme students (First year students). Almost all students participate in the events and give their 100 per cent to make them successful, enjoyable and memorable.
Onam celebration is very special at NIFT Kannur. All students come in traditional dress of Kerala. Cuisine of Kerala is a major attraction on this day. Likewise, Diwali and Holi are also celebrated here with great pomp and show. One can see unity in diversity during such celebrations.
Careers360: What are the best hangout spots at NIFT? What, according to you, are the most-visited places nearby the campus?
Mayank: There are many hangout spots inside NIFT like canteen, foyer, TT room, space next to resource room, badminton ground, backyard of the institute, stairs in front of workshop, and most importantly, terrace. I think the market (in Dharmashala), which is two minutes from campus, is the most visited nearby place.
Careers360: What is your opinion about the infrastructure of the institution? How are faculty members, workshops, mess, and everything else?
Mayank: NIFT Kannur is known for its state-of-the-art infrastructure. Round structure of the building makes it well-ventilated. Three big staircases have huge glasses attached to them from outside which give the campus a classic look. The foyer is beautifully designed. The big metallic structure over the edifice gives a gigantic look from the front.
Our teachers are quite friendly, and help us in bringing out the best in us. Everyone here is super cool and super frank. An important person in our campus is chai chechi (tea lady), who comes after 2.30 pm everyday with snacks and tea. She is full of energy, and is very special to us. The security guard of our institute is also very kind. He is like a friend who cracks jokes with us. These people are heart of NIFT Kannur. I believe that one can never find such people in any other college campus.
Careers360: How do you like to spend your leisure time?
Mayank: Generally, I spend my leisure time with friends. We have many hangout spots to spend our time. Being a sportsperson, I roam around TT room, badminton court or canteen.
Careers360: What else makes your campus unique and interesting?
Mayank: NIFT Kannur is special and unique in its own way. Greenery, considerate faculty members, helpful seniors, avant garde infrastructure, wall paintings, graffiti, big brick structure in front of foyer, frank security guards, appetizing canteen food, etc. are among few things that make our campus distinctive.
Careers360: Do you have any Facebook page of your campus where the students express their views, jokes or ideas, or maybe even a blog where they write about their life experience at the campus?
Mayank: There are two NIFT Kannur pages on Facebook. One is “NIFT-Kannur” and another one is “NIFT Kannur Tourism Club”. Apart from this, students have their own pages where they share their feelings and memories related to the campus.
