About NIFT Entrance Exam 2020

National Institute of Fashion Technology released NIFT 2020 application form in online mode on October 23, 2019. The last date to fill the application form is December 31, 2019. The authorities will conduct  NIFT entrance exam 2020 on January 19 for admissions to Bachelor of Design and  Bachelor of Fashion Technology programmes. The exam will be conducted in pen and paper based mode. NIFT admit card will be available on January 10, 2020. The authorities will release the result in February/March 2020. The qualified candidates will get admission in any of the NIFT campuses located in  Gandhinagar,  Bhopal, Jodhpur, Kangra,  Kannur, Raebareli,  Shillong,  Chennai, Bhubaneshwar, Mumbai, KolkataHyderabad, Patna, Srinagar, Bengaluru and New Delhi.  Candidates should note that the exam consists of creative ability test (CAT) for both B.Des and B.FTech while the general ability test (GAT) is only for B.Des. Qualifying candidates for B.Des will have to further face a situation test before selection.  Around 23,000 aspirants take NIFT entrance exam throughout India. NIFT aspirants are judged based on their  knowledge, skill and aptitude for the chosen programme.

Candidates who wish to appear for NIFT entrance exam, they should ensure that they fulfill NIFT eligibility criteria to  apply for NIFT entrance exam. The eligibility criteria of NIFT includes age bar and educational qualification. Check the table to know the eligibility criteria in detail.

Age Criteria - Candidate should be 23 years as on 1st October, 2019. Candidates who belong to reserved categories will get five years of relaxation.
Students should have passed 10+2 exam from any recognized Central/ State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education / State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi.

Candidates should have cleared their 12th exam from any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Students should have cleared Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.

OR
Students should hold 3 or 4-years diploma in any branch of Engineering recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education

OR
Candidates should have obtained 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.

Important information regarding NIFT eligibility criteria 2020

  • Students, who will appear in the final year of qualifying examination, can also take NIFT 2020.
  • If the result of class 12/final semester/final year is still unannounced by the respective university/board till the NIFT admission procedure, then such a candidate will be given provisional admission subject to these conditions: 
     The final result of the qualifying result should be presented before September 30, 2020.
     Affidavit (duly signedof Rs.10 on non-judicial stamp paper
  • Those students will be considered for provisional admission who will appear for the compartment exam of class 12. It is mandatory to pass the exam under the same board.

Interested and eligible candidates can fill and submit the application form of NIFT 2020 from October 23 till December 31. Applicants will have to pay requisite fee in online mode or through bank demand draft issued in favor of 'NIFT HO' payable at New Delhi.  The application fee for candidates who belong to general/OBC(Non-creamy) categories is Rs. 2000 while those who fall under SC/ST/PHP categories will have to pay Rs. 1000. The steps to fill NIFT application form is given below:

Window to update/edit NIFT application form 2020

The authorities will provide an opportunity to candidates to correct the information in their application, if needed. The link to edit the application form will be active from January 1 to 4, 2020. Candidates, however, can not change the exam centre later once it filled.  If the application form is found ineligible for NIFT admissions 2020 after editing it, the application fee already paid will not be refunded and the candidature of an applicant will be cancelled.

NIFT Entrance Exam B.F.Tech Exam Pattern

The exam pattern of NIFT entrance exam 2020 for the Creative Ability Test namely CAT is not clearly specified by the authorities. The total number of questions and the marking scheme is not clearly specified by the authorities.

Candidates must focus on concept development and design as questions will be designed to test them in these areas. They must be creative and make innovative use of their colour and illustration skills. 

Generally three questions are asked for a total of 30 marks and candidates are tested accordingly.

NIFT Entrance Exam M.Des Exam Pattern

NIFT 2020 Situation Test will be conducted for the shortlisted candidates of CAT and GAT for B.Des admissions. This will be held separately for those who have qualified. The situation test is a hands-on test used to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling as well as the innovative ability in a given situation with a given set of materials.

The Exam Pattern of the Situation Test can be summarised as follows:

  • Duration: two hours
  • Test involves: Design of one three dimensional (3D) model.

Note: Candidates will be provided with all the required design materials which should be checked by them upon receipt.

Some guidelines:

  • Candidates will be permitted to bring some items as instructed in the admit card
  • They must make optimum usage of the same. Additional materials will not be provided.
  • Colour pencils and marker pens are not allowed.
  • An Answer Sheet will be provided separately for any writing purposes which has to be signed by the candidates in the exam hall.
  • After completion of the test, the model, answer sheet and any left over materials must be left by the candidates on the table.

Evaluation Criteria for the NIFT Situation Test 2020 are as follows:

  • Originality of the concept applied.
  • Creative use of material and the skills for the same.
  • Neatness of the final model.
  • The write-up describing the model and concepts used.

Candidates can download NIFT 2020 admit card on January 10. They must note that they will not be sent any hard copy of the admit card. They will have to carry the admit card to the exam centre, along with a valid ID proof. No candidate will be allowed to enter the examination hall with the documents mentioned above.

What are the steps to download NIFT admit card?

The result for NIFT B.Des will be announced in last week of March while NIFT result for bachelor of fashion technology will be announced in first week of March.  B.Des. applicants, who will be shortlisted after CAT and GAT, will have to  appear for situation test also, they have to do the slot booking for the same online from last week of March to first week of April. The slot booking will  include selection of date and centre. However, GAT will be the only and final test for B.F.Tech admissions.   NIFT 2020  final result will be declared in third week of May

How to check NIFT result 2020

Step 1- Candidates should click on the ‘NIFT result 2020’ button.

Step 2- they should enter any 2 of these details- roll number, DOB and application number.

Step 3- ‘Submit’ button should be clicked. 

The screen will display NIFT 2020 result. Candidates should take out its printout for future reference. Below mentioned details will be mentioned on it:

  • Candidate’s name
  • Roll number
  • Application number
  • Date of birth
  • Photograph
  • Subject-wise scores obtained in CAT, GAT and Situation Test
  • Score obtained 

Mode of Counselling: Online, Offline

The registration for NIFT counselling 2020 first round will start from last week of May to first week of June. There will be two more rounds of the counselling procedure that will be conducted in June and July. Only qualified candidates will be required to attend the admission procedure as per the schedule. The NIFT will verify their documents as well. 

In 2018, as many as 2,370 (2010 B.Des. and 360 B.FTech.) seats were allotted across 16 NIFTs to the candidates. 

NIFT Counselling Procedure 2020 

  • Candidates will be required to register using the form number, DOB and password. A counselling campus has also to be selected from where it’s convenient to participate in the admission procedure. A system generated SMS and an email will be sent to them after successful registration.
  • Candidates will be called for the NIFT 2020 counselling procedure solely on merit basis. They will have to select a seat in presence of the nodal officer. 
  • After the allocation of seat, the candidate will have to make payment of the full fee at the NIFT campus. The nodal officer will issue him/her allotment letter/receipt

how do I have to study for NIFT entrance exam..in 1 month??

Hello dear aspirant.

For a exam like NIFT one month is a very less time. But if you work hard and smart . You can surely get success. First of all make a proper time table that you will study 14-16hrs daily. Ten after solve at least two previous year papers daily. Join a test series and see how are the results.

In theNIFT entrance exam, you have to write a creative ability test (CAT), General ability Test (GAT) and Situation Test and Personal interview.

For GAT the topics like English comprehension, Quantitative ability, mathematics, General Knowledge and current affairs are asked.


For General Knowledge and current affairs
Questions are asked mainly Fashion related topics, recent achievements in the fashion world like Miss World, Miss Universe etc.
Questions are also asked based on different brands, products and market value. Also, fashion magazines and newspaper reading will definitely help you for GAT G.K section.

Dear Aspirant,

The NIFT entrance exam is a pen and paper test with two papers- Creative Aptitude Test (CAT) and General Aptitude Test (GAT). For B.Des. and M.Des., GAT is conducted for 2 hours and for B.F.Tech., M.F.M., and M.F.Tech., GAT is conducted for 3 hours because of the differences in the weightage. The number of questions also differ from course to course.

CAT evaluates your creativity and deigning aptitude. This is important if you are seeking Bachelors of Design as your course.  Your intuition skills and observation skills should be put into practice to achieve good marks in the same. Colour and illustration skills become important and will also be evaluated in this.

GAT evaluates the academic aptitude like Mathematics (class 10th level), Reasoning, English Language and Comprehension. It also consists of GK, current affairs and the knowledge of the fashion industry.

English consists of spot the error, sentence correction, analogies, syntax, synonyms, antonyms, idioms and phrases, one word substitution, fill in the blanks, spelling errors, grammar and arranging the sentences or passages in the correct order.

Reasoning consists of verbal and non-verbal series, directions, ranking, calendar, sitting arrangement, coding-decoding, cubes and dices, clocks, syllogism, puzzles, blood relations, eligibility criteria, line counting, graph and related things.

GK and Current Affairs section apart from the GK and current affairs, also consists of questions based on fashion. Be aware of TV endorsements and their taglines used for different products in the same, fashion terminology, entertainment events, brands, logos, celebrities, Miss Universe, Miss World and fashion trends both which are in and out. Other than that, be thorough with current affairs consisting of the political, economic and social situation and also with sports, culture and history of India.

Mathematics consists of the pipes and cisterns, work time, simple interest, compound interest, averages, mensuration, set theory,  number system, ratio and proportion, ages, profit and loss, speed time, height and distance,mixtures and allegations, trigonometry, upstream & downstream, permutation and combination and probability.

There are 100 questions for B.Des. paper which are divided as follows:

English Comprehension- 25 questions

Quantitative ability- 20 questions

Communication ability- 25 questions

Analytical ability- 15 marks

GK and current affairs- 15 marks

NIFT entrance exam is for getting admission is the national institute Institute of Fashion Technology. NIFT has almost 16 campuses all over India and is a leader in Fashion technology courses in India.

The NIFT exam has three parts creative Ability Test (CAT), General ability test (GAT) and Situation Test.

Creative ability test is for  3 hours in which your designing skills and your innovative ideas are tested, this exam is done with paper and pencil.

General ability test (GAT)in which the Analytical ability, General knowledge and English comprehension is tested, this exam is for 2 hours So having a good English proficiency and solving Quantitative analytical questions will help you to get good marks in NIFT exam.

After this  test, the shortlisted candidates have to appear for situation test in which creative development, innovative ideas of a product has to be explained and the skills of a candidate will be closely evaluated.
so if you study hard by doing previous year question papers and practising the creative skills exam will be easy for you.
