NIFT Eligibility Criteria 2020 - National Institute of Fashion Technology has prescribed the eligibility criteria of NIFT 2020 on October 22. Aspirants who wish to take admission in B.Des or B.FTech programmes in any of the NIFT campuses should know the eligibility criteria prior to filling the application form. The eligibility criteria of NIFT mentions the academic qualifications, age limit as well as other important aspects that aspirants have to fulfil to be eligible to take NIFT entrance exam 2020. Candidates can fill the application in online mode from October 23 to December 31, 2019. Candidates can fill the application form with late fee until January 4, 2020. NIFT Eligibility Criteria 2020

Qualifying Exam

Age Requirement

Students should have passed class 12 exam from any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education/State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi

Or

Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries that is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system

Or

General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/International Baccalaureate (IB)

Or

A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination held by the National Open School with at least five subjects

Or

3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education


Candidates should be of 23 years of age as on October 1, 2019. However, there is an age relaxation of five years for those belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Person With Disability (PHP)

Qualifying exam

Age Criteria

Class 12 exam in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi. Having Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics is compulsory.

Or

Any Public School/Board/University Exam in India or in foreign countries that is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system with Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics

Or

General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/International Baccalaureate (IB)

Or

Three or four years’ diploma in any branch of engineering recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education

Or

A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics



Candidates should be of 23 years of age as on October 1, 2019. Students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Person with Disability (PHP) get an age relaxation of five years



NIFT Eligibility Criteria - Important points to keep in mind

  • Students appearing in the final year of qualifying examination are also eligible to appear for NIFT 2020.

  • In case, the result of the class 12/final year/final semester is awaited till the date of counselling procedure of NIFT 2020, Candidate’s admission will be strictly provisional subject to the following conditions:

  1. Submit final result of qualifying examination before September 30, 2020

  2. Duly signed affidavit of Rs.10 on non-judicial stamp paper. Candidate’s parent/guardian should sign the affidavit in case he/she is less than 18 years of age.

  • Candidates seeking provisional admission because their final year/final semester/class 12 result is yet to be declared, they will have to provide proof of having passed all papers in all the previous years/semesters of qualifying degree examination (whichever relevant).

  • Those who will be appearing for compartment examination(s) of class 12 will be considered only for provisional admission. However, they will have to clear the compartment exam under the same board. Those who fail to clear, it will result in automatic cancellation of provisional admission and forfeiture of the entire fee.

how do I have to study for NIFT entrance exam..in 1 month??

Hello dear aspirant.

For a exam like NIFT one month is a very less time. But if you work hard and smart . You can surely get success. First of all make a proper time table that you will study 14-16hrs daily. Ten after solve at least two previous year papers daily. Join a test series and see how are the results.

In theNIFT entrance exam, you have to write a creative ability test (CAT), General ability Test (GAT) and Situation Test and Personal interview.

For GAT the topics like English comprehension, Quantitative ability, mathematics, General Knowledge and current affairs are asked.


For General Knowledge and current affairs
Questions are asked mainly Fashion related topics, recent achievements in the fashion world like Miss World, Miss Universe etc.
Questions are also asked based on different brands, products and market value. Also, fashion magazines and newspaper reading will definitely help you for GAT G.K section.

Dear Aspirant,

The NIFT entrance exam is a pen and paper test with two papers- Creative Aptitude Test (CAT) and General Aptitude Test (GAT). For B.Des. and M.Des., GAT is conducted for 2 hours and for B.F.Tech., M.F.M., and M.F.Tech., GAT is conducted for 3 hours because of the differences in the weightage. The number of questions also differ from course to course.

CAT evaluates your creativity and deigning aptitude. This is important if you are seeking Bachelors of Design as your course.  Your intuition skills and observation skills should be put into practice to achieve good marks in the same. Colour and illustration skills become important and will also be evaluated in this.

GAT evaluates the academic aptitude like Mathematics (class 10th level), Reasoning, English Language and Comprehension. It also consists of GK, current affairs and the knowledge of the fashion industry.

English consists of spot the error, sentence correction, analogies, syntax, synonyms, antonyms, idioms and phrases, one word substitution, fill in the blanks, spelling errors, grammar and arranging the sentences or passages in the correct order.

Reasoning consists of verbal and non-verbal series, directions, ranking, calendar, sitting arrangement, coding-decoding, cubes and dices, clocks, syllogism, puzzles, blood relations, eligibility criteria, line counting, graph and related things.

GK and Current Affairs section apart from the GK and current affairs, also consists of questions based on fashion. Be aware of TV endorsements and their taglines used for different products in the same, fashion terminology, entertainment events, brands, logos, celebrities, Miss Universe, Miss World and fashion trends both which are in and out. Other than that, be thorough with current affairs consisting of the political, economic and social situation and also with sports, culture and history of India.

Mathematics consists of the pipes and cisterns, work time, simple interest, compound interest, averages, mensuration, set theory,  number system, ratio and proportion, ages, profit and loss, speed time, height and distance,mixtures and allegations, trigonometry, upstream & downstream, permutation and combination and probability.

There are 100 questions for B.Des. paper which are divided as follows:

English Comprehension- 25 questions

Quantitative ability- 20 questions

Communication ability- 25 questions

Analytical ability- 15 marks

GK and current affairs- 15 marks

NIFT entrance exam is for getting admission is the national institute Institute of Fashion Technology. NIFT has almost 16 campuses all over India and is a leader in Fashion technology courses in India.

The NIFT exam has three parts creative Ability Test (CAT), General ability test (GAT) and Situation Test.

Creative ability test is for  3 hours in which your designing skills and your innovative ideas are tested, this exam is done with paper and pencil.

General ability test (GAT)in which the Analytical ability, General knowledge and English comprehension is tested, this exam is for 2 hours So having a good English proficiency and solving Quantitative analytical questions will help you to get good marks in NIFT exam.

After this  test, the shortlisted candidates have to appear for situation test in which creative development, innovative ideas of a product has to be explained and the skills of a candidate will be closely evaluated.
so if you study hard by doing previous year question papers and practising the creative skills exam will be easy for you.
