NIFT eligibility criteria 2024 has been released along with the official brochure at the official website-nift.ac.in. The candidates willing to seek admission to NIFT design courses have to meet the specified NIFT 2024 eligibility criteria. As per NIFT eligibility criteria 2024, the candidates who have passed class 12 are eligible for BDes and BFTech admissions. NIFT Entrance Exam Eligibility Criteria

NIFT Age Eligibility Criteria

The authorities have released NIFT 2024 age eligibility course-wise which indicates the lower and upper age limit to be eligible for NIFT admission.

  • BDes and BFTech - To be eligible for BDes and BFTech courses, the candidate's NIFT age limit is required to be less than 24 years as of August 1 of the year of admission. The upper age limit may be relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for candidates of Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/ Person with Disability (PWD) categories.

  • M.Des., M.F.M and M.F.Tech - There is no age bar for applying to the Masters Programmes in NIFT.

  • NIFT Lateral Entry - 24 years as on 1st August of the year of Admission. The upper age limit may be relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for the candidates of Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribe/ Persons With Disabilities (PWD).

NIFT 2024 eligibility criteria for BDes and BFtech

  • Should have passed the Plus 2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination from any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education / State Board New Delhi / Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi. OR

  • A pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects. OR

  • Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system. OR

NIFT Entrance Exam Eligibility 2024 for MFTech

  • Should have completed B.F.Tech. from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). OR

  • Obtained B.E / B.Tech. degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India.

NIFT Entrance Exam 2024 General Eligibility

NIFT sets some basic eligibility standards that a candidate needs to clear before filling out the NIFT application form. These standards are categorized as listed below:

Can I join NIFT after 12th?

Yes, candidates who have passed class 12 will be eligible to appear for the NIFT entrance exam for admission into BDes courses. If a candidate is in the 12th/ final year of college/ final year of diploma and does not submit the examination result at the time of admission or counselling, his/her admission depends on the following conditions: -

  • Candidate below 18 years of age has to submit an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper of Rs.10 in the prescribed Proforma duly signed by the parent/guardian. Submission of a false document is a punishable offense.

  • Candidates have to submit their qualifying degree to the campus director or joint director of the allotted college on or before a date to be announced soon.

  • In case a candidate fails to submit his/her qualifying degree at the time of admission, his/her admission will be considered null and void.

  • If a candidate’s result has not been declared at the time of admission and he/she is seeking provisional admission, in that case, he/she shall have to provide relevant proof of having cleared the examination.

  • Candidates who are seeking provisional admission will have to bring the date sheet/admit card/Principal’s certificate as proof of having taken the exam. The same thing applies to the candidates who have taken the compartment/supplementary exam in the 12th standard or final year of graduation/diploma. This is a part of NIFT entrance exam eligibility.

  • Candidates who are seeking provisional admission will only be considered for admission if their result has not been declared by the institution or university. In any other case, their admission will liable to be cancelled under the provisional admission category.

Does NIFT require Maths?

Candidates seeking admission to the Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F. Tech) Programme are required to have studied Maths in class 12. As per NIFT eligibility 2024 for B.F. Tech, candidates should have passed the Plus 2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination from any recognised Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi / Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi with Physics and Mathematics. Therefore, Mathematics is a compulsory subject for NIFT B.F. Tech.

NIFT 2024 Eligibility Criteria- Important Point to be noted

Apart from the NIFT entrance exam eligibility criteria mentioned in the above table, the following are a few of the norms on which students must be eligible to apply for NIFT in certain conditions.

  • Students appearing in the final exam of the qualifying exam could also apply for NIFT 2024.

  • If the Class 12/ final year / final semester exam result is not yet announced by the date of the NIFT counselling procedure, then students will be strictly provisional subject to the following conditions.

  • Students will have to submit the final result of the qualifying exam before September 2024.

  • Candidates have to submit duly sign an affidavit of Rs. 10 on a non-judicial stamp paper. The candidate’s parent/ guardian must sign the affidavit if he/she is less than 18 years of age.

  • Candidates seeking provisional admission as the final result of their qualifying exam are awaited for declaration, then students have to submit proof that they have passed all the papers of the previous years/ semesters of the qualifying exam.

  • Students who are appearing for compartment examination(s) of 10+2 standard will be considered only for provisional admission. But, they are required to pass the compartment exam from the same board. If candidates fail to complete the, then the candidature will be automatically cancelled from the provisional admission and forfeiture of the entire fee.

NIFT Admission Eligibility

To join NIFT, candidates have to take the entrance exam that is scheduled to be held in February. NIFT exam date 2024 is February 5. NIFT offers various design courses and selects candidates based on their performance in the NIFT entrance exam 2024. If candidates complete the public school exam or board exam or University level exam from the foreign country accorded by AIU, then they are eligible to apply for NIFT.  

6. What are the qualifications for NIFT?

The eligibility criteria for NIFT vary depending on the program you are interested in. For B.Des and B.F.Tech programs, you must have completed 10+2 or equivalent with any stream or subjects. For M.Des and M.F.M programs, you must have a bachelor’s degree or a diploma in any discipline. For the M.F.Tech program, the candidate must have a B.F.Tech degree or a B.E/B.Tech degree in engineering or technology.

No, you cannot join NIFT without taking the entrance exam. NIFT conducts a national level entrance exam every year in January to select candidates for admission to its various design courses. The NIFT entrance exam consists of two parts: the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and the General Ability Test (GAT). To get admission to NIFT, you must pass both tests and a situation test or group discussion, or personal interview.

8. How can I apply for NIFT after 12?

After completing 12th grade, you can apply for NIFT by filling out the online application form on the official NIFT website - nift.ac.in. The nationwide Institute of Fashion Technology offers a nationwide entrance exam called NIFT for admission to its fashion design programmes.

Every course has specific requirements that must be met in order to apply. For NIFT, there is no minimum age requirement, however it is evident that passing the 10+2 exam is a requirement in order to be admitted to any undergraduate programme in fashion design.


You cannot be admitted because you are in class eleven. However, you can apply to NIFT for experience and practice, and if your application is accepted, you can take the entrance exam. If you pass, however, be aware that you will not be able to retain your results for admission.

For BVoc courses in interior design, separate entrance exams are conducted by the concerned colleges. By giving NIFT you can only get admission in BDes and MDes courses in NIFTs and some other participating institutes.

In 2022 NIFT Entrance Examination was conducted in 32 cities. The candidates have to select the preference of the examination cities while filling the application form. Based on the availability, preferences of the examination cities you will be allotted an examination center. You have to appear for NIFT Entrance Examination in the allotted examination center as per the given schedule. You can select any city where examination is conducted while filling your preferences, make sure that you select the cities such that you can commute on the day of examination easily. Next year the list of examination cities may increase or decrease, the cities may vary.
