The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay will release the CEED syllabus 2026 through its official brochure in online mode at ceed.iitb.ac.in. CEED 2026 will be conducted in two parts- Part A & Part B. Candidates planning to appear for the CEED 2026 exam are advised to go through the CEED exam syllabus 2026 and practice previous years' questions. Through the CEED entrance exam, candidates will be admitted into M.Des programmes of participating IITs. The syllabus of CEED 2026, therefore, seeks to evaluate a candidate's suitability to pursue a postgraduate course in design.

CEED 2026 Entrance Exam Syllabus

The Common Entrance Examination for Design syllabus tests the candidates' proficiency and aptitude in design. To prepare productively, candidates are encouraged to focus on visualization skills, and practise their drawing. Aspiring candidates can also refer to the previous year’s question papers available on the official website of CEED. IIT Bombay is yet to release the CEED 2026 syllabus online. However, candidates can refer to 2025 syllabus to get an idea on the topics asked. CEED entrance exam syllabus 2026 will be released separately for part A and B.

Visualization and spatial reasoning

Ability to visualise and transform 2D shapes and 3D objects and their spatial relationships.

Practical and scientific knowledge

Know-how of scientific principles and everyday objects.


Observation and design sensitivity

The capacity to detect concealed properties in daily life and think critically about them. Attention to detail, classification, analysis, inference, and prediction.

Environment and society

General awareness of environmental, social and cultural connections with design.

Analytical and logical reasoning

Ability to analyse qualitative and quantitative information.

Language

Proficiency in reading and comprehending Standard English

Creativity

Grasp of verbal and non-verbal analogies, metaphors, signs, and symbols

Art and Design knowledge

Awareness about art/artefacts/product, artists/designers, art/design history, and trends

Design methods and practices

Knowledge of media, materials, production processes, and ergonomics.

Drawing

Ability to draw products, people or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective, and shading.

Creativity

Ability to think out-of-the-box and come up with unique as well as diverse solutions.

Communication

Skills to communicate concepts and ideas clearly with the help of text and visuals.

Problem Identification

Skills to understand the user and the context, knowledge of properties of materials and their appropriate use in design.

Note: While the suggested topics for CEED 2026 offers a comprehensive outline of the knowledge areas assessed, it is important to note that the entrance test may not cover all the topics. The topics are exhaustive and indicative of the nature of the questions and serves as a guide for the candidates.

While the CEED score is important, most of the institutes use full selection process that includes your CEED score(Part A and B), Portfolio and often an interview or studio tests.Your 6 years of experience, strong portfolio and relevant coursera certificates can add significant value during admission in IITDM, Srishti etc which consider the overall profile not just the rank.
