The IIT M.Des admissions 2026 will be done based on the Common Entrance Exam for Design. Each participating institute will conduct the IIT M.Des 2026 admission separately. IIT Bombay will conduct CEED 2026 on January 18, 2026. Candidates who have a valid score in the CEED entrance exam must separately apply to the respective institute. There is no centralised counselling for M.Des admissions at IIT and other participating institutes. In this article, you will get all the details of the IIT M.Des admissions 2026 process.

Seven IITs are part of the IIT M.Des admissions 2026 through the CEED entrance exam. Additionally, IISC Bangalore, IIITDM Jabalpur, and IIITDM Kancheepuram also admit students into their M.Des programmes through CEED.
The CEED 2026 notification includes all details about the IIT M.Des 2026 admission. Given below are the steps in the IIT M.Des 2026 admission process.
After the declaration of the CEED result, students need to apply to the respective IITs in which they wish to seek admission
The shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test.
This written test will be followed by an interview conducted at the institution.
A final merit list score will be published on the website.
Following that, a final admission list will be provided on the website along with the waitlist. In case the candidates in the admission list do not take admission, candidates in the wait list will be offered a seat.
The IIT M.Des 2026 application form will be available online on the respective websites of the various IITs. While filling in the form, the students need to choose the stream (if applicable). The candidates might also need to do certain tasks and upload them along with relevant documents. The students then need to pay a nominal fee and finally submit the form.

Candidates who are shortlisted based on the CEED score have to appear for a written test conducted by the respective IIT. The test is an aptitude test. Candidates who are shortlisted after the written test have to appear for an interview. Usually 30% weightage is given to the written test and interview.
The declaration of results is the final step in the admission process. The results are declared after calculating the sum total of all the exams and interviews conducted. Based on the final score calculated, a final merit list will be published. Admission letters will be made from this list, considering the available seats in each category.
The MDes 2026 merit list is prepared on all the tests conducted from the beginning of the exam process. The merit list score is calculated based on the performance in CEED exam, the written test, and the interview as per the prescribed weightage. The students who are selected for admission in the first list have to deposit the prescribed fee for a semester and other documents for IIT MDes admission to confirm their seat allotment
