Candidates can apply online from the official website. The last date to fill and submit the IITB MDes application form 2026 is March 23, 2026, with a standard fee and March 28, 2026 with a late fee. The standard IITB MDes 2026 application fee is Rs 300 for general/OBC and Rs 150 for SC/ST. The late application fee is Rs 500 in addition to the standard fee.     IIT Bombay MDes Selection Process 2026

    IIT Bombay admission to MDes course depends on the CEED scores followed by written test, online interview and portfolio review. The candidates who are selected for the online evaluation will have to submit their portfolios.

    The admission process involves a written test and interview for each of the streams. Written tests may have a material/ studio test, which will be informed to the applicants who will be selected for written tests and interviews. In the IIT Bombay MDes admission 2026 interview, candidates will be assessed based on their portfolio, academic background, stream-specific design skills, and general as well as design knowledge.

    The following criteria will be used to calculate the final score of the entrance exam for IIT Bombay MDes 2026 admission:

    Final score = CEED scores × (0.70) + (written test and interview) × (0.30)

    The IDC School of Design offers a Master of Design (MDes) program in various streams. To apply, candidates have to:

    IIT Bombay MDes Eligibility Criteria 2026

    Students who want to get admission to the Industrial Design Centre have to meet the eligibility criteria of IIT Bombay MDes course admission 2026. Admission will not be offered to any candidates who do not satisfy the prescribed IIT Bombay MDes eligibility criteria. The IIT Bombay MDes admission criteria include the academic qualification and the minimum percentage of marks that the candidate must obtain to get admission to the institute.     • To pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Design/Engineering/Architecture/Interior Design, candidates need to have completed 10+2 and a minimum of four years of Bachelor’s courses. For example, B.Plan. is equivalent to B.Arch. and B.Sc (Engg) is equivalent to BE/B.Tech.
    • To pursue a Professional Diploma in Design, candidates need to have completed 10+2 and a minimum of four years of diploma program.
    • To pursue a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts), candidates need to have completed 10+2 and a four-year professional program.
    • To pursue a GD Art (Government Diploma in Art), candidates need to have completed 10th and a one-year foundation course, followed by a four-year program.

    Communication Design

    • A minimum of four years of Bachelor’s courses after 10+2 is required for a Bachelor’s Degree in Design/Engineering/Architecture/Interior Design. Some courses are equivalent to each other, such as B.Plan. and B.Arch. or B.Sc (Engg) and BE/B.Tech.
    • A minimum of four years of diploma program after 10+2 is required for a Professional Diploma in Design.
    • A four-year professional program after 10+2 is required for a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts).
    • A four-year program after 10th and a one-year foundation course is required for a GD Art (Government Diploma in Art).

    Industrial Design (ID)

    • Candidates need to complete 10+2 and a four-year Bachelor’s course at least for a Bachelor’s Degree in Design/Engineering/Architecture/ Interior Design. Some courses are considered the same, for example B.Plan. and B.Arch. or B.Sc (Engg) and BE/B.Tech.
    • Candidates need to complete 10+2 and a four-year diploma program at least for a Professional Diploma in Design.

    Interaction Design

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Design/Engineering/Architecture/ Interior Design requires 10+2 and at least four years of Bachelor’s course. Some courses have the same value, such as B.Plan. and B.Arch. or B.Sc (Engg) and BE/B.Tech.
    • A Professional Diploma in Design requires 10+2 and at least four years of diploma program.
    • A BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) requires 10+2 and a four-year professional program.
    • A Master’s Degree in Arts, and Science requires 10+2 and a 3+2 years program.
    • A Master’s Degree in Computer Application requires 10+2+3 years for graduation and a 3-year or 2-year program (in case of lateral entry to the second year after BCA).
    • A GD Art (Government Diploma in Art) requires 10th and a one-year foundation course, followed by a four-year program.

    Mobility and Vehicle Design

    • To get a Bachelor’s Degree in Design/Engineering/Architecture/ Interior Design, candidates need to finish 10+2 and a four-year Bachelor’s course at least. Some courses are equal to each other, for example B.Plan. and B.Arch. or B.Sc (Engg) and BE/B.Tech.
