The shortlisted candidates in CAT and GAT for Bachelor of Design will have to take situation test. It judges test-takers’ ability to handle the given set of materials along with innovation in a particular situation. Candidates must note that they are not allowed to carry any additional material. Evaluation of the model is done on the basis of space visualization, creativity, uniqueness, finishing, element composition, construction, colour scheme, and a lot more.
Candidates who wish to take admission in B.F.Tech have to appear for only GAT.

The Creative Ability Test (CAT) comprises three questions which candidates have to complete within three hours. The total marks is 100. This test is conducted to evaluate the intuitive & design ability and observation skills for developing a concept. Creativity and innovation in skills will also be judged via this test.
The General Ability Test (GAT) is of 2 hours paper-based test which consists of 5 sections. The total number of questions in the paper is 100. For other details like weightage of each section, kindly refer the article.

NIFT Situation Test or GD/PI Dates:
Candidates who clear NIFT entrance exam for BDes course admission then need to appear for the Situation Test round wherein their material handling skills are tested. On the other hand, aspirants taking the design entrance exam for MDes course admission need to appear for the Group Discussion/Personal Interview round. Situation test/ GD/ PI admission round will be conducted in April-May, 2020.

From my research, candidates are not allowed to carry any aditional materials in NIFT exam.
The pattern of the exam is
There is an creative ability test and General ability test and situation test.
CAT exam is for 3 hours with 100 marks and GAT exam is for 2 hours with 100 questions.Selected candidates has to appear in situation test which test the ability of the candidates.
