Nonverbal Reasoning
English Language Skills
Understanding and tips for topics and sections asked in the BITSDAT exam according to the syllabus is given below for student’s preparation:
This section includes problem-solving skills, spatial reasoning, and mathematical abilities related questions. Topics that are generally asked in the BITSDAT exam for aptitude section are:
Mathematics: Geometry, Algebra, Arithmetic, Trigonometry, and Mensuration.
Logical Reasoning: Puzzles, pattern recognition, series, and analogies.
Spatial Ability: Visualizing 2D and 3D shapes, rotations, reflections, and transformations.
Students are needed to focus on these topics and solve questions to develop speed and accuracy for the exam. Practice problems involving geometry related questions from areas, volumes, surface areas, angles, and properties of triangles, etc, basic algebra (simplifying expressions, equations) and arithmetic (ratios, percentages, averages, profit-loss, etc. Work on puzzles, sequences, analogies, and the visualization of objects in space and transformations of 2D and 3D objects.

Analogy-based Reasoning, Series Completion, Puzzles, Blood Relations, Venn Diagrams, Direction Sense and Coding and Decoding are some of the important topics that are asked under the logical reasoning section for the BITSDAT exam. Students need to practice questions from these regularly to comprehend and develop the ability. The best way to approach these questions is to break down complex reasoning problems into smaller, manageable parts. Students can also use elimination methods for multiple-choice questions, by eliminating the obviously incorrect options first to improve your chances of selecting the correct answer.
Non Verbal reasoning section will include topics like Mirror Images, Symmetry and Reflection, Paper Folding & Cutting and Series Completion related questions. The best way to prepare is through previous design aptitude exam papers, such as those for NID, NIFT, UCEED, or BITSDAT, to familiarize with the question format and language. Identify recurring patterns in images and sequences and understand how objects or patterns are presented in different ways, such as through rotations, reflections, and transformations.
This section involves developing your language skills and general awareness. For this section, student’s ability to comprehend, articulate and express in English is tested. Students are judged on the basis of their reading and writing skills, text structure, Decoding, fluency, Spelling, and Grammar awareness. The goal is to develop effective communication skills and the ability to use language to convey meaning through reading, writing in their designs and how well can it be conveyed.
Students should incorporate daily exercises that involve preparation through reading and writing for these concepts to have better understanding and practice on comprehension questions.
Students should also solve questions from this section from the previous year to understand their weaknesses and strengths and then create a study plan accordingly.
Students need to create study plans according to their weaknesses and strengths. This not only helps them but will also create a sense of confidence and better time management.
Simulate exam-like conditions by solving mock test papers daily, as it not only provides students with better preparation but also helps in building confidence and understanding of what questions take what amount of time for them to solve.
With practice, it will also help them to better prepare for the BITSDAT 2026 exam, as time is an important criteria here. Students are advised to solve as many UCEED and NID sample question papers and mock tests as possible to prepare by creating similar conditions as of the actual exam as BITSDAT question papers are not available.
