Which branch is suitable for ece passed out engineering student at nid??

Prabhavati Dhavala 13th Dec, 2017

Hi,

First of all let me clear one concept. NID is primarily a design institute and the courses are oriented like that. Courses are not segregated as per the background. So first you have to decide which area of design you are interested in. These courses are not to be taken according to what is suitable because suitable may mean career for some, interest for some or something else and that no one can decide for you except yourself.

Engineering graduates generally opt for product design, graphic design, digital design, information design, strategic design management etc. These are some specializations that may work for you if you want to match your engineering background with the design course.  But the basic thing is that you need to check the syllabus and the course design of each specialization before you join in. Other than NID, there is CEED also that you could check out.

Im taking coaching for NID but I like reading about culture, history and human mind. I had pcb, 75% in 12th class. Suggest me some courses

sachin 16th Nov, 2017

Apoorva at your age it is quite common to have diverse interests. History is broadly a humanites  subjects  and there are plenty of general BA/ BA hon courses dealing with this. Culture is manifested in music, arts, performance arts and each one of them have different courses. And human mind is dealt with in disciplines as diverse as neurology to psycology.  Culture also deals with issues like indian culture or western culture which are best dealt with in sociology or anthropology.

But interestingly even the course for which you are currently geting coached for also deals with each of these domains. Design is  good way to engage with all these issues. NID has a facinating programme in textiles which if you are so inclined could lead you to deal with  all these issues that you highlighted. So  take it easy enjoy the coaching as much as you can.

There is  also liberal arts, a new way of looking at education being offered by institutues like Ashoka, Flame and O P jindal. You can look at them as well if you want  a rounded education without tying yourself up to either history or human mind

For NID AND NATA , What preparation should I take .

Anonymous 4th Nov, 2017
Questions framed in these exams is to judge a candidates creativity, imagination & visualization skills/ observation / general awareness etc. So, developing these skills are equally important. You should follow below strategies to crack your exam 1- Be creative and work on your speed as well. 2- You should solve previous year papers to understand the exam patter and level of questions 3- You should work on A4 sizes sheet as they are standard. 4- You should read newspapers daily. Read books / magazines & develop a genuine passion for your field. 5- Practice more with dry mediums ( colours ), as they are convenient to use and take less time in exams. All the Best for your Preparation!!

I am good at making sketches. Do I have high chances of cracking NID DAT in first attempt?

Nancy Johri 1st Nov, 2017
Having good sketching ability will be an added advantage of course, but there are other parameters too on which you will be evaluated for admission to NID. You will have to qualify Prelims first after which you will be allowed to sit for Mains. Have a look at their components below: DAT (prelims) primarily evaluates each candidate on the following abilities: 1) Analysis 2) Creativity 3) Knowledge 4) Visualisation 5) Comprehension NID DAT Mains may consist of tests in different formats such as: 1) Drawing/sketching 2) Hands-on model making 3) Group discussions 4) Presentations So, you have to be good in all these apart from sketching as well.
