National Institute of Design (NID) is an ‘Institute of National Importance’ as per the NID Act 2014 as well as an autonomous institute under the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. It conducts Design Aptitude Test (DAT) for admissions to Bachelor of Design Programmes offered at NID Ahmedabad (main campus).

NID DAT exam, as a whole, consists of three stages –

• Written Exam (Prelims and Mains): Those candidates who qualify the written exam by clearing NID 2019 Cut-Off will be called for the studio test and personal interview.
• Studio Test: The second stage involves a studio test of 100 marks which includes drawing/sketching, modeling and group discussion.
• Personal Interview Round: In the third stage, an Interview is conducted immediately after the studio test at the same center.

A final NID Merit List of selected candidates is prepared after this round. Only the candidates who clear these three stages would get admission in the college.

No doubt your rank is really good and you stand really good chance in NID, but admission is based on not just one's rank (as you can see above). There will be PI and studio test too which you'd need to clear in order to be selected for admission.

If you meant you scored 50 for DAT prelims you might have a chance to get into the next round. It can’t be exactly said as it depends on level of difficulty, the number of candidates for a seat, past years cut off etc.

If you meant, if you score 50 for your mains what would be rank then, for General candidate the cut off is 50 percentiles, OBC‐NCL is 45 percentiles, SC/ST/PwD is 40 percentiles. The number of candidates being shortlisted from prelims will not be less than three times the number of seats available for a particular category in that field or discipline.

**The most common and understood definition of a percentile is a number, at which certain percentage of scores fall below that number. You might have scored 50 on 100. But that number holds true meaning when you know in which percentile you fall into. If you know that your score is in the 90th percentile, that means you scored better than 90% of people who took the test. **

You could rank somewhere near 1200 to 1500, approximately.

The number of seats reserved for general candidates is 50, OBC-NCL 27, SC 15 and ST is 8

Marking and tie breaker criteria:

CAndidates are scored according to their performance if two candidates hav ethe same marks, then the candidate with higher marks in part B is given rank, if the tie remains unresolved then the part A marks isconsidered , if the tie still remains then the candidates are assigned the same rank.

The DAT main merit list will be released on may 1 after the mains stage. The list will be calculated based upon the sum total of the weighted scores obtained by the candidate at each stage of the admission process. The tie breaker will be processed accordingly,

• Candidates with higher marks in DAT Main will get the higher rank.
• Candidate who has secured higher marks in Stage 1 Design Aptitude Test Part B will be awarded the higher rank.
• The higher rank will be assigned to those candidates who has obtained higher marks in Stage 1 Design Aptitude Test Part A in case of a unresolved tie still exists.
• Finally, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has secured higher marks in the DAT Mains exam question with maximum marks. 

The weightage given to DAT prelims is 30 % and Finals is 70% for calculating the merit list. It is comparatively easy to get prelims. There are cases when a general candidate with 55-57 marks qualified for Finals. The going starts to feel a bit tougher with studio test and personal interview.

NID scores are accepted by all the NID's like Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, etc. If in case you don’t get into them you can opt for private colleges like Pearl with a fee of around INR 21 lakhs, IILM Gurgaon, DJ Academy of Design Coimbatore with a fee of around 10 lakhs, WLCI School of fashion with a fee of around INR 9 lakhs.

Hello Tanya, i am so sorry to hear that you missed nid by 0.5 marks. But NID clearly states that: in re-evaluation, no marks would be increased. Re checking would only ensure that any if any question is left unchecked. No extra marks would be awarded for already checked questions. Hope this helps.  All the best! 

CCongratulation Anupriya! For NID mains, you should work on your communication skills, channelize your confidence,  and most importantly work on your portfolio. Portifolio is not the mandatory thing but the most important thing for interview .Because  portfolio is the thing that  make a good impact in the mind of interviewer before your verbal. 

On the other hand, you can  make a portfolio by considering few points as :

• A brief introduction about you, your profile, achievements, especially something that tells the interviewer about your design interests through either cover letter format or even personal statement
• Also, make sure to show a full range of abilities, including sketching, rendering, digital sketching/painting
• Any of the works made using Photoshop, finished products, photography, 3D-modelling, written documentation, 
• Water and oil color paintings
• A collection of some best captures taken by you (photographs) or any other alternatives, 
• Design case studies.

You can go for different design by searching them online or from some good professional portfolios sites.

Based on your score of prelims eligible candidate shortlisted for DAT mains. I'm afraid that the opportunity to apply for NID 2019 has already pased. Applications open in October/November of the previous year. The exams happen during this time.

The application form for NID DAT for the session 19-20 is already over. The application form was released in the month of October 2018 and the time for filling up the form was upto November 2018. The exam for NID DAT 2019 (Prelims) was held on 6th January 2019. The results for the same will be declared on 16th March 2019 on their official website. The exam for NID DAT 2019 (Mains) will be held on 12th May tentatively and its results will be declared on 31st May 2019.
