The application form for the academic year 2019-20 was released on 1st October 2018. So if you want to apply for the next academic year i.e. 2020 then you'll have to apply in October of this year.
For the inter personal test, the candidates were divided in groups of ten acc to their roll numbers. Each group was assigned an object, for eg. Key, cello tape, and they had to form a story with that object as an element. Each person has 40 seconds to speak, and the next person continues the story from where the last person left off.
They judge you most likely on your communication skills, team work, delivery, teamwork, confidence, presentation, presence of mind, spontaneity and of course, imagination.

National Institute of Design conducts NID DAT through written test (including prelims and mains) followed by studio test and personal interview for admissions into B.Des/GDPD and M.Des courses.
DAT prelims was concluded on January 6, 2019. M.Des prelims result has been declared while B.Des/GDPD prelims result will be declared on March 19, 2019. Check here

NID DAT written test is the first step for selection process. Based on the scores obtained in step 1, shortlisted candidates for B.Des. and M.Des. have to appear for the step 2 (Studio Test) and Step 3 (Personal Interview) of the NID Selection Process. Check NID Cut Off
The primary objective of this selection process is to assess of the perception, attitude, aptitude, achievement and motivation essential in a potential design student. Admission to various UG and PG Level programs is subject to candidate passing the subsequent Studio Test and Personal Interview successfully.
NID 2019 Studio Test
Studio Test is the second step in the Selection Procedure of NID 2019. A candidate after clearing the Design Aptitude Test (DAT), has to appear for the Studio Test. Only shortlisted candidates, based on the scores obtained in the first step of NID 2019 Selection Procedure i.e. DAT (Design Aptitude Test) will be eligible to participate in the Studio Tests and Personal Interview. There will be separate NID Admit Card issued for Studio Tests and Personal Interviews. Admit cards are available for the shortlisted candidates on the official admission portal of NID - admissions.nid.edu. A candidate without a valid admit card will not be allowed to appear for the Studio Test.
Important Guidelines For Studio Test for B.Des. Candidates
The studio test will be of 100 marks.
Studio Test for B. Des Applicants will be conducted at Ahmedabad campus only.
The studio test consists of various sections in different formats such as hands on practical assignments.
Next step after the studio test faced by the candidates is personal interview.
Studio Test for M.Des. Candidates
The studio test for M.Des. candidates carries 100 marks
The medium in which the test is conducted is English language only
The studio Tests will be conducted separately for each discipline of specialization
The studio test consists of various sections in different formats such as hands-on practical assignments and group discussion
Studio Test is followed by the personal interview for candidates interested in taking admission into M.Des. program.
NID 2019 Personal Interviews
The final step in NID 2019 Selection Procedure after successfully clearing the studio test is to face the personal interview. Personal interview is third and the last step of NID 2019 Selection Process. With the completion of personal interview Selection Procedure for NID 2019 ends and candidates are evaluated on the basis of three tier selection method.
Personal Interviews for B.Des. Candidates
A personal interview is the last stage of the NID 2019 Selection process
The Personal Interviews are conducted immediately after the studio tests for B.Des. applicants
The Test Center remains the same for both Studio Test and Personal interviews i.e. Ahmedabad
Candidates are advised to maintain discipline and patience during the personal interview
Personal Interviews for M.Des. Candidates
Personal interview is the final stage of the selection procedure of NID 2019 M. Des Admissions
The Personal Interviews are conducted separately for each discipline of specialization
A personal interview is conducted immediately after the studio tests for candidates interested in taking admission in M.Des. program
An interview is conducted at the same test centre where the studio test was held for all the respective candidates.

Right now the selection process for the year 2019-2020 is going now. The admission forms for the academic year 2020-2021 will be released later in 2019. For the academic year 2019-2020 the admission forms were available from October to November of 2018. So you can expect admission form for the academic year 2020-2021 to be available from October of this year. And the exam can be expected to be conducted in the month of January 2020. But going by last year trend,It will be out in october first week or second week.
