A scholarship for design provides a fee waiver to students, which can range up to a full 100% waiver for a certain semester/year or the entire duration of the course.

The 19 NIFT campuses provide primarily three types of design scholarships to students as given below. The NIFT admissions are done through the NIFT entrance exam.
The objective of this scheme is to make sure that any deserving student is not deprived of education due to financial constraints. This scheme is primarily designed for students from EWS category.
This scholarship scheme provides financial assistance to pursue foreign studies. Regular students from economically weaker sections who fulfil the eligibility criteria for SARTHAK can also avail the benefit under the UDAAN scheme.
Students from the SC/ST category can avail of the national scholarship through the National Scholarship portal. All the NIFT campuses are registered on the portal.
The National Institute of Design also offers design scholarships based on performance in the NID admission process, and also based on academic performance during the course of study. The admission to NID is done based on the NID DAT entrance exam. The details of the scholarship at NID are given below.
This scholarship of Rs 50000 is granted to the open category candidate who has the highest rank provided the rank is above 60.
The students who got the first and second rank during the first year of study will get a scholarship of Rs 50000 and Rs 30000 respectively.
Another NID scholarship available in the second year is the merit cum means scholarship. A student who ranks within the top 25% of the whole batch during the first year of studies and also fulfils the eligibility criteria for EWS category students will be awarded a scholarship of Rs 30000.
Students who got the highest AGPA in each discipline in the third and fourth year and with AGPA above 8 will get a scholarship of Rs 50000
Another scholarship is the merit cum means grant of Rs 30000 that is available to candidates who fulfil the criteria for EWS and have been ranked among the top 25% of the batch
Parul University offers fee waiver to B.Des students for the first two years of the programme based on performance in the Parul University DAT entrance exam. The details are given below.

UPES Dehradun is another popular university for design. It conducts its admissions based on the UPES DAT exam. Some of the scholarships available at UPES are given below.
This scholarship will be available for 10% of the students enrolled in a particular programme from 2nd year onwards upto the pre-final year. A minimum CGPA of 8.5 is required to avail the scholarship.

This scholarship is available for students from underprivilaged backgrounds who demonstrate high calibre and commitment. There is a fee waiver upto 100% (including tuition and other academic fee). A maximum of 51 students from different UG and PG programmes can avail this scholarship on a merit basis. The family income should not exceed 8 lakh p.a. from all sources.
MITID, another popular private college provides scholarship to design students. The institute conducts the MITID DET entrance exam for its admissions. MITID provides full or partial scholarship to 5% of the total students. The scholarship aims to benefit students from economically weaker sections. An interview panel nominated by the institute will evaluate the students who have applied for the scholarship and decide the amount of the scholarship to be given.
Candidates who are seeking admission under foreign nationals category will be eligible to avail design scholarship for international students. Colleges such as UPES offer merit based scholarships based on past academic peformance with fee waiver upto 30%. Interested candidates are advised to check with the respective institute in which they are applying to avail the design scholarsihps.

Getting admission in IITs or NID for BDes depends on a few things: your entrance exam score, portfolio, and sometimes your interview performance.
IITs (for BDes) : Admission is mainly through UCEED . You need a good rank in UCEED to get in.
NID : Admission is through NID DAT (Design Aptitude Test) . Your portfolio and DAT score matter a lot.
If your preparation and scores are strong, you have a chance. You can check previous years’ cut-offs to see where you stand.
