10 Do’s and Don’ts For NIFT 2020 - National Institute of Fashion Technology has conducted the entrance exam for admissions to B.Des and B.Ftech programmes on January 19. Ahead of the exam candidates need to keep in mind 10 Do’s and Don’ts for NIFT 2020. The objective of the 10 Do’s and Don’ts for NIFT 2020 is to ensure that the candidates do not face any problem on the day of the exam. Hence it is important for them to remember those points. If the candidates are well versed with the 10 Do’s and Don’ts for NIFT then it is easy for them to sail through the exam. The exam was conducted in PBT( pen and paper based) mode. NIFT entrance exam is a three-tier format exam for B.des admissions. As part of the entrance exam, for Bdes. candidates need to first appear for the Creative ability test(CAT) which is followed by General ability test(GAT). The final admission round for BDes course is a Situation Test. On the other hand, for BFTech course admissions candidates need to appear for GAT exam only. Do’s For NIFT 2020

  • Brochure of NIFT 2020 - Always go through the brochure of NIFT 2020 given on the official website to comprehend the detailed exam pattern and syllabus for both the courses.

  • Solve sample papers - Refer to some of the previous year question papers and mock tests of the NIFT entrance test, at-least of the previous 10 years and practice them as much as you can.

  • Work on general knowledge - Improve your vocabulary, general knowledge, and current affairs by reading newspapers, books on general knowledge like Manorama, researching the internet or watching youtube videos related to these topics.

  • Understand the basics of your syllabus - Understand elements and basic principles of design, like colour theory, typography, animation techniques, etc.

  • Complete the syllabus - Strike a balance between studying smart and trying to cover everything in a topic. Cover as many topics as possible.

  • Admit card and identity proof - Printed copy of the admit card must be carried along with the valid photo ID proof to the test centre as entry won’t be permitted without the same.

  • Prioritise sections - Plan your paper. Attempt the simple ones like logo designing, T-Shirt designing, etc. first and then go for the complicated ones like the scene drawing, etc.

  • Quality stationery - Try to use quality colour pencils which contain at least 24 shades.

  • Draw in one go - Try to make less use of eraser while sketching. This will represent your lines in a more distinct, bold and confident way.

  • Reporting Time - Make sure to reach the centre at the reporting time mentioned in the admit card. After ‘Gate closure’, the candidate will not be permitted under any circumstances.

Dont’s For NIFT 2020

  • Do not stress yourself - Do not strain yourself till the last minute. Leave all your books aside for a few days before the exam. Have a good time and relax.

  • Do not set limits while studying - Do not limit yourself to the topics, cover as many topics as you can.

  • Do not start preparing late for the exam - Do not underestimate the amount of practice and time required for this exam. The only way to crack NIFT is by starting as early as you can.

  • Do not try to represent your creativity through texts - Do not focus more on texts but on visuals.

  • No electronic gadgets - The candidates must not carry mobile phone phones, smartwatches, wallets, handbags, notes, books or any fluid/marker inside the test center.

  • Do not presume the answers - The candidates must not mark the answers if they are not sure as there is 0.25 negative marking for every wrong/incorrectly marked answer(GAT only)

  • Do not ignore the instructions - Do not carry the question booklet or any part thereof outside the test before completion of the test.

  • Do not forget to make your own arrangements - No travelling or accomodation/food expenses would be paid to the candidates for attending the test. Hence they have to arrange for their own.

  • Do not mark multiple answers - Do not darken more than one oval in the OMR sheet as such an answer will not be considered for evaluation and may cost you your marks because of the negative marking.

  • Do not mar the answer sheet - Do not tear, bend or mutilate the answer sheet.

Hello student student yes sure you can appear for nift entrance examination in 2021 as eligibility criteria says students must have passed class 12 (or appearing) with any discipline from a recognized board.

Nift offer two Bachelor course one is B.design and second is B.ftech candidates applying for b.ftech must have physics chemistry and mathematics in class 12.and for bachelor of design any stream students can apply.

The results for NIFT 2020 written test will be declared in the month of March, 2020. Accordingly, the students will be called for further round like GD or PI. The final results for the same will be announced in the month of May 2020.


My sister is appearing for 12th boards in Feb,2020, she plans to do B.Des. She has given NIFT exam but without preparation so the chances for it are negligible. I want to get insights related to B.Des : Colleges, about different fields in B.Des, ROI of colleges, scope of the Course,etc. KindlyHelp

It's okay if your sister does not clear nift entrance, there are lot of private universities like Pearl Academy,IIAD etc that she apply for. They have very easy entrance, all you need there is a good portfolio and confidence that's it. Don't worry she will get into one soon

what will be the minimum marks to clear out of 100 and 150 marks in NIFT entrance exam?

Passing marks may vary every year.

As you might know , nift entrance consist of cat-50% gat-30% and situation test-20%. So if you scored well in written exam you can easily get among top 2000 and get selected for situation test.

Marks vary year to year. Your performance in situation test will actually decide your rank.
