NIFT 2020 Important Topics

The written test of NIFT 2020 which includes Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT) will test candidates’ knowledge, abilities and design aptitude. Candidates who are seeking for admission to B.Des. will have to appear for both- CAT and GAT while those looking for admission to B.F.Tech programme will have to take GAT only. In addition, the shortlisted candidates after CAT and GAT have face situation test. The Important topics for NIFT preparation section-wise for each exam is given below.


CREATIVE ABILITY TEST (CAT)

This test judge the intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development and design ability of candidates. Students are tested based on their creative and innovative use of colour and illustration skills.


Section- wise Important Topics for GAT for B.Des

Communication Ability: This section checks how good and comfortable a candidate is in English. The Important topics for NIFT preparation in this section are questions from correct spellings, one-word substitutes, idioms and phrases, synonyms, antonyms, words with corresponding meanings, singular, plural, to name a few.

Analytical Ability: This section of GAT exam tests candidate’s ability for inference and logic from the given information.

English Comprehension: This evaluate candidates’ competency to understand a situation from a given passage and also test their basic English language.

Quantitative Ability: This section of GAT exam assess quantitative ability of the candidates. The questions that are asked in quantitative ability are based on division, NIFT lateral entry admission fractions, the rate of interest, ratio and proportion, distance, percentages, addition, multiplication and work and task.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This judges candidates’ general knowledge and how well-versed they are in current affairs.

Important Topics for NIFT General Ability Test (GAT) for Bachelor of Technology (B.F.Tech.)

Quantitative Ability: This section tests the quantitative ability of candidates, which consists of questions on fractions, division, rate of interest, distance, ratio and proportion, percentages, multiplication, addition and work and task.

Communication Ability and English Comprehension: In this section of NIFT exam, candidates have to answer questions from singular, plural, idioms and phrases, correct spellings, synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitutes, words with corresponding meanings.

Analytical Ability and Logical Ability: Candidates’ competency to draw inference and logic from the given information is assessed in this section of exam. Students have to use their reasoning ability to solve core issues applying their creative and lateral thinking.

General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This section tests candidate’s general knowledge and current affairs.

Case Study: It tests students’ managerial ability based on a particular situation of an industry environment.


NIFT Situation Test for Bachelor of Design (B.Des.)

Candidates who get through CAT and GAT are eligible to appear for the further round - situation test. It tests candidates’ ability to handle materials using their innovative ability in a particular situation with a given set of materials. Students must note that no additional material is provided/allowed.

The model is examined on space visualization, element composition, innovative and creative use of given material, the finesse of the model, construction skill, colour scheme, and many more.

NIFT Situation Test or GD/PI Dates: Candidates who clear NIFT entrance exam for BDes course admission then need to appear for the Situation Test round wherein their material handling skills are tested. On the other hand, aspirants taking the design entrance exam for MDes course admission need to appear for the Group Discussion/Personal Interview round. Situation test/ GD/ PI admission round will be conducted in April-May, 2020.

Can I use any drawing board or any type of boards in nift entrance exam ??

Hi there,

From my research, candidates are not allowed to carry any aditional materials in NIFT exam.

The pattern of the exam is

There is an creative ability test and General ability test and situation test.

CAT exam is for 3 hours with 100 marks and GAT exam is for 2 hours with 100 questions.Selected candidates has to appear in situation test which test the ability of the candidates.
