The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) follows a well-defined and transparent evaluation criteria for declaring the NIFT 2026 result. The NIFT result evaluation criteria are structured to assess candidates on aptitude, creativity, technical knowledge, and overall suitability for fashion, design, and management programs. The NIFT selection process varies according to the course applied for and also includes many assessment NIFT stages with specific weightages.

The NIFT 2026 result is based on the performance of candidates in the following NIFT stages.
Creative Ability Test (CAT)
General Ability Test (GAT)
Situation Test (ST) or Personal Interview (PI)
NIFT 2026 undergraduate programs include Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.FTech).
Bachelor of Design (B.Des)
Creative Ability Test (CAT)- Assesses candidates creativity, imagination, and visual expression. Also focuses on drawing skills, color application, innovation, and concept development with a total weightage of 50%.
General Ability Test (GAT)- It tests quantitative ability, communication skills, English comprehension, analytical ability, and general knowledge with a total weightage of 30%.
Situation Test (ST)- In this stage practical test involves model-making using given materials. Evaluated on material usage, innovation, concept explanation, and space visualization and having a total weightage of 20%.
Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.FTech)
Candidates will get selected on the basis of General Ability Test (GAT). It also emphasizes analytical, logical, and technical skills. For B.FTech no CAT or Situation Test is conducted.
Master of Design (M.Des)
Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT) for initial shortlisting and Personal Interview (PI) for final evaluation.
Personal Interview (PI) assesses design orientation, communication skills, subject knowledge, and career goals.
Master of Fashion Management (M.F.M) & Master of Fashion Technology (M.FTech)
General Ability Test (GAT) for written assessment and Personal Interview (PI) for final selection.
Focus on technical knowledge, managerial aptitude, industry awareness, and leadership skills.
The final NIFT 2026 merit rank will be calculated by combining the weightage scores of all the applicable NIFT stages. Separate NIFT merit lists are prepared for each NIFT program. These ranks are crucial for NIFT counselling and seat allotment.
The NIFT 2026 result evaluation criteria ensure a balanced and fair assessment by combining aptitude, creativity, and professional potential.
