The Footwear Design & Development Institute (FDDI) offers short-term certificate courses in two categories, the Short Term Program and the Short Term Program (non-leather). Pursuing a short-term certificate course at FDDI allows a way for students and working professionals to upgrade skills in fashion, footwear, leather products, and retail management. These industry-oriented programmes are designed to offer practical, hands-on training that enhances employability and opens doors to specialised roles in the design and manufacturing sector.

Currently, the Short Term programs offer 10 courses in a full-time session, based on the official website. As for the short-term programs in Non-Leather, candidates will have three options to choose from, out of which Non-Leather Footwear Manufacturing Technology comes in both full-time and part-time sessions.

According to the Footwear Design and Development Institute, the main objective of the short-term training provided at various FDDI campuses is listed below.
This training is for learners to identify the knowledge and skills required in the footwear industry. This training develops the capacity of the designers pattern engineers and supervisors to join the workforce and handle technical aspects of the footwear industry. The required skill set along with the relevant knowledge is imparted through the curriculum. After the completion of this program the students can build a career in the area of supervision quality control pattern engineering designing etc in a footwear industry.
The minimum Eligibility requirement for this FDDI short term course is 12th pass and 18 years of age. Along with that the applicant must be able to read and write along with meeting mental and physical requirements. This is a full time formal program which involves bilingual teaching in lecture halls, lab practices and discussions. The candidates must maintain a 80% attendance for the duration of 6 months. The classes will be held five days a week in the campuses of FDDI. A total of 20 seats are allotted for this program. The Footwear Design short courses fee for this course is Rs. 60K. Hostel facilities may be provided with extra charges.
This program by FDDI is a short term program which makes the students competent enough in the area of footwear designing and pattern cutting. The students who join this course are taught the technical aspects and skills required in the field of footwear designing. The candidates need to come up with creative and innovative ideas for shoes and other types of footwear. After the completion of this course students can find jobs in the area of designing and pattern engineering in the footwear industry.
To be eligible for this course the students must be above 18 years of age and must have completed 12th. The candidates must be able to read and write and must be physically and mentally fit. The mode of delivery of this course is through bilingual teaching and demonstrations, lecture halls, lab practices and discussions. The duration of the scores is 3 months with 20 seats allotted to the course. The candidates will be required to maintain 80% of attendance. The footwear design short courses fee is Rs. 30 K.
The students who join this course are expected to be experts in the area of non leather manufacturing process of footwear. The students will learn to manage the work force and handle technical aspects of non leather footwear production. After the completion of this course the students can help in the Indian footwear industry especially in the non leather sector.
The eligibility required for this course is basic reading and writing abilities along with mental and physical well being. The candidates are required to have completed 12th class with preference to science stream and must be of 18 years of age. This three month program requires 80% of attendance where the classes are regularly held 5 days a week in FDDI campus. A total of 20 seats are there and the medium of teaching is bilingual English/Hindi. The total FDDI short term courses fee for this course is Rs. 30 K.
The objective of this program is to train the students in cutting operators in the field of footwear designing. The candidates will learn the basics skills of cutting different types of leather and footwear material. Through this program the candidates will learn proper utilisation and saving of material which will in turn reduce the cost. The candidates will also learn about interlocking of patterns efficiently to reduce the cost. Skills such as cutting, nesting of components, grading and costing etc are taught. After this certificate candidates can find jobs in the Indian footwear industry in the area of upper cutting.
The students must be of the age of 18 with an ability to read and write. The students are expected to be mentally and physically fit for the industrial requirement. The program will be taught through the methods of demonstration lab practices and lectures in a bilingual mode. The duration of this program is one month with 80% of attendance being mandatory. The Footwear Design short courses fee is Rs. 18500.
This program aims to equip the students with basic skills of upper closing and assembly of the uppers. The candidates will learn the main type of stitching along with operation of ancillary machines such as flat bed single and double needle machine, post bed single and double needle machine, zigzag machine, skiving machine, thermo folding machine etc. the candidates will learn the technical aspects of making an upper with the help of different types of needles and thread. After the completion of this program candidates can start a career in the area of upper assembly with a focus of footwear technology.
The candidates are required to be 18 years of age with mental and physical wellbeing and ability to read and write. The lectures will be delivered in a bilingual mode for a duration of one month in which 80% attendance is compulsory. A total of 20 seats will be allotted and the fees for this course is Rs 18000.
Through this program the learners are expected to attend the basics skills of making sole and insole of a footwear. The program teaches the students insole preparation using fibre board and cellulose board. The candidates learn different types of machine usage for making soles and insoles like travelling head cutting press, skiving machines, moulding machines etc. After finishing this course the candidates can use their knowledge in the footwear bottom component area.
To join this course the candidates must be able to read and write and must be mentally and physically fit for the industrial requirement. Along with that the candidates must be above the age of 18. The course will be delivered in English / Hindi with the duration of one month. There are 20 seats for this course. The footwear design short term courses fee for this is Rs. 5000.
The candidates will learn to operate in the field of footwear bottom component department through this course. The candidates will learn the basics skills of footwear components making use of various insole and sole machines. The candidates will learn to prepare insoles with the help of fibre board and cellulose board. Post the completion of the course the students can start a career in the area of footwear bottom component.
To be eligible for this course the students must be above 18 years of age with an ability to read and write. The candidates must be mentally and physically fit for industrial requirements. The duration of the scores is one month and the total number of seats allotted is 20 for this course. The teaching will be given in a bilingual method with English and Hindi being the two languages. The fee for the course is Rs. 5000.
