UCEED Exam Date:18 Jan' 26 - 18 Jan' 26
Applicants must score highly on the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design, or UCEED exam, in order to get admitted to the top design schools in India, which are offered by the IITs. To make an impression and effectively convey their answers, a design applicant must be able to draw realistic, captivating human figures in Design Aptitude Tests, such as the UCEED exam, where creativity and functional knowledge are essential. Once you understand the true importance and placement of appropriate human interactions, these drawings help you bring your thoughts to life. UCEED 2026 will tentatively be conducted in January 2026.

According to the UCEED Exam Syllabus, questions in Part B for the UCEED exam comprise the following sections:
According to the UCEED Syllabus 2026, design is almost always centered on human needs: how they use space, things, or solutions. Including human figures in sketches is helpful for the following reasons.

Students can see and practice different types of human figures that are essential to practice for UCEED 2026 exam from below:
These are the quickest and most ideal forms of human sketching that could reflect human movements or direction of movement. Adding action lines (curves and arrows) indicates movements like people walking, jumping and interacting with an object.
Gesture lines are also one of the most convenient figures for capturing the posture and emotions in a situation. They have great applicability for the scenes where multiple figures, like the classroom or retail settings, are to be highlighted without much need for details.
For example, a scene of the protagonist in action
The Block figures harvest the combination of the placement of Cuboidal blocks along with weight to depict the different personalities and movements, and body areas like Torso, limbs and head to indicate the proportions and bulk. An example of this is shown below for better understanding.
In this technique, it is suggested to focus on the areas essential only for showing close interactions, such as using an appliance or switching on the appliance, etc. This could be better understood by the example illustrated.
E.g. How a person triggers a switch.
According to the UCEED exam pattern, producing good quality interactive human sketches becomes essential, yet this is one of the most significant dilemmas for an aspirant. Let’s understand the same with examples in a stepwise manner to outshine Part B of UCEED.
Step 01: Start with the Simpler Line/Stick Figures
Starting with the line of stick figures helps develop the quick layout poses for arms, legs and torso to indicate the movements. This helps quickly develop the pose and proportions with little focus on details.
Step 02: Work on Proportions
A significant requirement for producing balanced human figures is to focus on proportions. The examiner/viewer looks at the concepts visually, and any inappropriate body/object/scene would immediately attract attention.
Follow the “8-Head Technique” to produce realistic and proportional body forms while attempting the human body forms
Step 03: Use Gestures for Lively Interactions
Lively interaction attracts the examiner's/viewers attention. Sketching the gestures that depict the movements like leaning, walking and interacting with products helps make the interactions more lively and help in scoring well while proposing the solutions for given situations.
Step 04: Focus on Contact Points
Focus on the contact points where the human body meets the product or the interaction is happening with products like handles, pedals, etc., adding details and clear Information Produce a lasting effect immediately, highlighting the idea as communicated through Sketch.
Step 05: Highlighting the Crucial Elements
Lastly, using the variation of strokes, i.e. outlines should be marked with darker strokes, While the other details could be produced with lighter strokes for subjects like clothes, Accessories, etc., are used to add realism to the design solution.
Also Check:
Practice Quick Poses: Try to freeze your subjects as quickly as in 30 seconds or less, and think only about the geometric shapes. It fosters confidence and quickens the work rate.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Yes, as it proves that the student is designing with the user in mind, and increases the persuasiveness of the solution.
Students can first use stick men for posture to incorporate simple body shapes and then mimic the movement with gestures to create fast and accurate human poses in uceed exam.
Students can start practicing daily exercises with the help of the concepts given in the article to develop skills and speed for the drawing section in the UCEED 2026.

Hello!
UCEED is a competitive exam for design aspirants, testing design aptitude, logical thinking, creativity, and visualisation skills. To improve your score out of 300, start by understanding the exam pattern—Part A (objective) and Part B (subjective). For Part A, practice reasoning, numerical aptitude, and environmental & social awareness questions. For Part B, focus on drawing, sketching, and presenting your ideas clearly. Solve past year UCEED papers and join online mock test series. Spend at least 2–3 hours daily practising creative problem-solving and sketching. Also, work on time management because the exam requires quick thinking.
