Here we will look back at the history and decide our preparation for the future of UCEED 2026. Evolving Trends in UCEED Exam Assessment Methodology from 2019 to 2025?
One of the most important findings of the last five years is that the company that administers the test has changed the scrutiny procedure for the UCEED exam. They have increased productivity by concentrating on a more succinct evaluation of design aptitude and reducing the number of repetitious questions. To give them more weight, the number of questions has been reduced by over 10%. The UCEED 2026 exam will be conducted tentatively in the month of January.

Before diving into the Section-wise analysis first, let's have an overview of the question paper. As per the analysis, the 2019 UCEED question paper has more than 50% easy questions, around 30% moderate and less than 15% difficult questions which brings us to the conclusion that overall the exam easy easy to mode

For Part-A: Which consisted of three sections.
1a | Difficulty Level | The difficulty level was Moderate to Easy |
1b | Ideal Time | 40-50 minutes |
1c | Good Attempt | 14-15 questions |
1d | Focus Areas | Geometric Shapes, Knowledge of Formulas, and Visualization skills to break the question into strategies. |
Overall the section was balanced for difficult to moderate. However, this again becomes subjective, a candidate with a good understanding of the fundamentals of topics like Geometry, Permutation & Combination, and Statistics would find the questions easy and doable in a single attempt. But this doesn't mean all the questions asked in 2019 were formula-based; most of them rather could easily be attempted with logic and for sure the very fundamental understanding of basic geometric constructions. Let us try to understand this through a question from UCEED 2019, where first we need to identify the underlying geometric shapes that make the whole composition and later work on simple area calculation.

Here are a few example questions from the UCEED 2019 question paper such as:
1. Question No. 19
Process to attempt the solution: To approach this question one should be able to fragment the composition into simpler shapes and then visualize the possible overlaps and approach the question for solution.
Fragment Simplifying the Compositions
One needs to know the mathematical formulas to calculate the Area of a square, circle, semi-circle, etc. that combine to make the shape. Also the understanding of negative and positive space to visualize the underlying shapes.
2. Question 12 - It is more logical than Numerical Aptitude.
Process to attempt the solution - Solving NAT Questions Using Logic
One needs to have a logical understanding of hinges and movements in constrain, but also an understanding of geometrical mathematics, if both the questions are easy else may seem difficult at first glance.
150i✔6 s 150*2.44 = 366 approx.
> Power of Clue: The first logical question is whether the length would increase or decrease (increase in this case)
> The final answer would be greater than 36
2a | Difficulty Level | The difficulty level was Moderate |
2b | Ideal Time | 30-40 minutes |
2c | Good Attempt | 13-14 questions |
2d | Focus Areas | Visualization and Spatial Ability + Observation and Design Sensitivity |
MSQ(Multiple Select Questions) part in the UCEED examination is one of the most scoring sections, which comes with a risk of negative marking for each wrong choice. The questions asked mostly were easy and needed primarily the Observation and Design Sensitivity in a candidate. This section was a combination of Verbal(Q-28) and Non-Verbal reasoning (Q- 23,24 etc.), Data Interpretation & General Awareness.
Awareness-based questions from every day are comparatively easy and scoring.
For Example, Q- 33, wants to identify the birds around us in daily life, one needs to be observant of surroundings.
3a | Difficulty Level | The difficulty level was Easy |
3b | Ideal Time | 30-40 minutes |
3c | Good Attempt | 35-40 questions |
3d | Focus Areas | Observation and Design Sensitivity, Experimental, Everyday Life activities(Playing with Torchlight) Visualization and Spatial Ability + Observation and Design Sensitivity |
Note: This area is good to score but also becomes equally risky for a negative marking of 1.32 marks for every wrong choice made.
A Good Approach: “With Thorns comes Roses”, this may sound crazy, but true for this section.
This means the given options in the MSQ section, Looking at the Options Given are always a good starting point.
*This helps eliminate the wrong choices, exposing the correct options before the candidate.
Overall this section was easy for 2019, only the catch was accuracy with speed. Since MCQ contains more than 50% of all the questions in Section A, the level of questions was kept easy.
The questions asked were mostly Pictorial Based, but any careless decision or overconfidence by looking at the question at one glance can award a negative score, taking your overall score and ranking down during the final merit.
This section is very unique in the sense it evaluates not only the aptitude skills of an aspirant but demands an understanding of the following topics:
Art & Culture
Material and Manufacturing Process
Visual and Spatial Ability
Movement of Humans & Animals
All the above topics could be easily understood from everyday life but at the same time, one needs to have an understanding of fundamentals from all walks of life.
For Example. 48 (Good Example of Human Run Cycle)
One needs to be aware of the motion of limbs to balance a human body while walking or running. It is a common observation that the upper and lower limbs of the side are in opposite directions while walking.
This concept only helps eliminate the wrong options out of all the given options, thus revealing the right option.
The drawing base part, section B, is now focusing on analytical skills, i.e., not only good sketching but also the technical understanding of sketching skills to depict the idea.
E.g. If you are asked to design a Computer mouse for elderly people?
One needs to identify and depict the following requirements:
Purpose: What the proposed solution should offer, ergonomics or form, or both?
Presentation: This is a challenging part where one needs to have an understanding of the Exploded view (Product Detailing) and human-product interaction to be.
Overall the level of the 2019 UCEED question paper was easy to moderate. With consistent efforts, practice, and observations one has a good chance of selection for a question paper like this.
All the best!

Hello!
UCEED is a competitive exam for design aspirants, testing design aptitude, logical thinking, creativity, and visualisation skills. To improve your score out of 300, start by understanding the exam pattern—Part A (objective) and Part B (subjective). For Part A, practice reasoning, numerical aptitude, and environmental & social awareness questions. For Part B, focus on drawing, sketching, and presenting your ideas clearly. Solve past year UCEED papers and join online mock test series. Spend at least 2–3 hours daily practising creative problem-solving and sketching. Also, work on time management because the exam requires quick thinking.
Thank you for reading, and I wish you the best
