Around 3,590 seats across Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech) programmes will be allocated on merit basis to students who will qualify NIFT entrance exam. National Institute of Fashion Technology conducts the NIFT entrance exam to shortlist aspirants for admission in design programmes offered by it. NIFT has its headquarter in Delhi. Besides, the other campuses are situated in Gandhinagar, Bhopal, Jodhpur, Kangra, Chennai, Bhubaneshwar, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Patna, Srinagar, Kannur, Raebareli, Shillong and Kolkata. In 2019, approximately 2400 seats were given for B.Des and B.F.Tech programmes whereas 3590 seats (including UG & PG programmes, excluding NRI students) will be offered in 2020.
Candidates who wish to apply for NIFT exam, they have to fulfill the prescribed age and educational qualification criteria for the programme they opt. Students must note that the eligibility criteria for B.Des and B.FTech vary, but the age criterion is same for both the programmes. Age Criteria - Candidate should be 23 years as on 1st October, 2019. Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe/ Person with Disability (PWD) categories get five years of relaxation.
Students should have passed 10+2 exam from any recognized Central/ State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education / State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi.
Candidates should have cleared their 12th exam from any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
Students should have cleared Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.
Students should hold 3 or 4-years diploma in any branch of Engineering recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education

The application form of NIFT 2020 can be filled now from October 23 to December 31, 2019. Candidates can fill application form with late fee till January 4, 2020. Students can follow the steps below to fill the application form of NIFT
Step 1: New candidates should create login ID.
Step 2: Candidates who have already logged in, they have to complete the process of filling online application form.
Step 3: After submitting it, they have to check the status of their application form.
Step 4: After filling the application form, they can download their admit card also.
Applicants should not forget to keep a printout/photocopy of NIFT application form 2020 for future reference, along with the proof of payment.
Aspirants get the opportunity to review and edit the information in their online application form before making the payment. Once the payment has been made, students will not be allowed to change/modify any information in the application form, excluding the exam centre. The window to edit the application form will open from January 1 to 4, 2020. If any incorrect or false information is found at a later stage, then authorities have the right to cancel the candidature. The details submitted after the closing of the window to edit the application form cannot be edited later.
The written test of NIFT 2020 consists of Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT), which evaluate the knowledge, abilities and design aptitude of test takers. Candidates who wish to take admission in B.Des. have to take both - CAT and GAT, while those looking for admission in B.F.Tech programme have to sit for GAT only. The qualified candidates in both CAT and GAT have to appear for situation test.
This test judges the intuitive ability, observation power in concept development and design ability of the test-takers. Most importantly, it evaluates the creative and innovative use of colour and illustration skills.

Candidates should know that the syllabus for CAT and GAT is not the same. In GAT, the questions from quantitative ability, communication ability, English comprehension, leadership qualities, problem-solving approach, analytical & logical ability, general knowledge and current affairs are asked.In CAT, design & discernment abilities, observation power and creativity are assessed.
The paper-based test (PBT) will be held on January 19, across 32 exam cities. A candidate can select only one exam centre for NIFT 2020. At any stage, no request for change in NIFT 2020 exam centre will be entertained, so candidates should be careful while choosing the same.
The admit card of NIFT 2020 will be available in online mode on January 10. Candidates whose application form will be accepted, they will be able to download NIFT 2020 admit card. They can download admit card by entering any two of the following credentials - application number, registered email ID and date of birth. After downloading the admit card, candidates should take the printout for the same for future reference. They should keep in mind that the authorities do not send the admit card via post. Candidates should not forget to carry the hard copy of the admit card along with a valid ID proof to the exam centre. Candidates without the aforementioned documents will not be allowed to enter the examination hall without the admit card.

Following a few effective tips will help candidates do well in the exam. Some of the tips are given below, candidates can read them and incorporate them in their preparation.
1) Sketch a lot - Sketch whatever idea comes to your mind. Try sketching new stuff, go through journals, website and magazines to come up with new ideas. Get ideas from advertisements and posters you see.
2) Detailing - A work of art and beauty get enriched when combined with detailing. Give enough amount of attention to detailing wherever required, be it human face or outfit.
3) Speed - Improve your speed. If you are not able to pen down your ideas steadily, your efforts are in futile. The main purpose is to present your imagination and uniqueness within a limited time frame. Ensure that you are able to complete the work smoothly without getting nervous.
4) Solve Sample Paper - Solve past years' sample papers to boost your confidence and understand the exam pattern and types of questions asked in the entrance exam.

NIFT Result 2020 for bachelor of design programme will be announced in Feb/March. The shortlisted candidates for B.Des admission will have to appear for situation test, the registration for which will start from fourth week of March to first week of April. The final result will be announced in May/June. GAT is the final test for selection for B.FTech admission.

Candidates can download the call letter for situation test by entering their roll numbers, date of birth and application numbers. Candidates can register for the same from fourth week of March 2020 to first week of April 2020. Candidates will have to click on the link that will be provided in this article and then enter their email address, date of birth, roll number and verification code. Post this, candidates will have to click on ‘Submit’ button. Next, candidates can select the city and the date on which they wish to appear for the situation test. NIFT cutoff refers to the category and campus-wise closing rank, which is released by the Institute. NIFT 2020 cutoff will help candidates know the last merit rank required for admissions in a particular programme and campus. NIFT cutoff or the closing ranks will be released in online mode during the counselling procedure. Candidates can follow the given below steps to check the cutoff:

NIFT counselling first round will start in May/ June 2020. The registration for first round of NIFT 2020 will start from fourth week of May to first week of June. The NIFT entrance exam is a pen and paper test with two papers- Creative Aptitude Test (CAT) and General Aptitude Test (GAT). For B.Des. and M.Des., GAT is conducted for 2 hours and for B.F.Tech., M.F.M., and M.F.Tech., GAT is conducted for 3 hours because of the differences in the weightage. The number of questions also differ from course to course.
CAT evaluates your creativity and deigning aptitude. This is important if you are seeking Bachelors of Design as your course. Your intuition skills and observation skills should be put into practice to achieve good marks in the same. Colour and illustration skills become important and will also be evaluated in this.
GAT evaluates the academic aptitude like Mathematics (class 10th level), Reasoning, English Language and Comprehension. It also consists of GK, current affairs and the knowledge of the fashion industry.
English consists of spot the error, sentence correction, analogies, syntax, synonyms, antonyms, idioms and phrases, one word substitution, fill in the blanks, spelling errors, grammar and arranging the sentences or passages in the correct order.
Reasoning consists of verbal and non-verbal series, directions, ranking, calendar, sitting arrangement, coding-decoding, cubes and dices, clocks, syllogism, puzzles, blood relations, eligibility criteria, line counting, graph and related things.
GK and Current Affairs section apart from the GK and current affairs, also consists of questions based on fashion. Be aware of TV endorsements and their taglines used for different products in the same, fashion terminology, entertainment events, brands, logos, celebrities, Miss Universe, Miss World and fashion trends both which are in and out. Other than that, be thorough with current affairs consisting of the political, economic and social situation and also with sports, culture and history of India.
Mathematics consists of the pipes and cisterns, work time, simple interest, compound interest, averages, mensuration, set theory, number system, ratio and proportion, ages, profit and loss, speed time, height and distance,mixtures and allegations, trigonometry, upstream & downstream, permutation and combination and probability.
