Preparing your portfolio is the most important element of the interview process as it shows examiners what abilities candidates have and therefore having a weak portfolio should be highly avoided. Avoid cluttered sketches or designs and focus on quality, original, and creatively presenting your portfolios.
Getting inspired is okay but copying ideas from platforms like Pinterest, Instagram or Google is highly discouraged. Students are needed to avoid this mistake as it can cost them their admissions. Work on showcasing your original ideas without hesitation as interviewers focus on your ability for creative designs.
Avoid this mistake of not learning the basics of Fashion design, as it is asked in the interview process. Students should have a thorough understanding of elements of fashion, like color theory, silhouettes, fabrics, and draping.
Students should be aware of trends, designers, basic fashion terms, etc before the interview. Read on famous designers like Coco Chanel, Sabyasachi, Manish Malhotra, etc. Avoid not being aware about current trends and news related to the fashion industry.
Avoid presenting random sketches without showcasing the creative process behind it. Always structure your portfolio with: Theme, Inspiration/Moodboard, Design Process and Final Sketches or Prototypes.
Students should avoid not being open to feedback or getting defensive or arguing during feedback as it is highly unappreciated. It is important to show that you are open to learning.
Students should avoid not practicing with mock interviews enough as it will get you in the idea on how the interview works. It will also get you ready to draw a design idea on the instant and explain your ideas skillfully.
