Identify your best work and include those in your portfolio: Aspirants must know that making a portfolio is important to display their skills and creativity. While making a portfolio include your best work that can highlight your ability. Remember quality always trumps quantity, so when you choose items for your portfolio focus on quality, not quantity. You must include your best stuff in your portfolio that reflects your ideas, experience as well as abilities in the field of design. Try to include various projects in your portfolio to showcase variability and spectrum of your work/
Make sure that you don’t add your most dull and unimaginative work as it could make a bad impression. Try to include the diversity of projects or designs as the diversity of work samples shows that you are talented and have the ability to create a magnificent design. Along with the quality and diversity of work include those designs that can differentiate you from the competitors.
Tell the story of your sample design: A portfolio is not all about putting together the image of your best sample. However, at the same time, you have to show your viewer about your design. Tell your viewer the story behind your design instead of just displaying the picture in your portfolio. Telling the story doesn’t mean you have to narrate a long story but you have to make your viewer understand the purpose of your design and its achievement.

Focus on quality, not quantity: It has been mentioned above also that portfolio is all about showcasing your creative skills and ability. You need to understand presenting a portfolio is not about the quantity of the work you have done. So, it is suggestible that your portfolio is confined to around 10 to 15 pages where you add your best work on each page. Ensure that your portfolio includes images that are in sync with your interest. Prepare your portfolio in a way where it can exhibit that you are comfortable with various tools, design styles, and approaches as well as media.
Work on your presentation: Again presentation is also one of the main elements to impress the examination panel. It would be impressive if you added the introduction of your project to your portfolio. Ensure that the introduction is not lengthy and complete it in a one-two line. The importance of the introduction is that it gives the panel a blunt idea about what to expect in the product that follows without getting overwhelmed by words. Aspirants must keep in mind that while compiling the project include those works that are justifiable reasons for it.
Model/Prototype: It would be a plus point if you are good at making models and carry one of your models to the NID and CEED exams. It will help in the most effective way to make the panel understand your thought and the process behind the product. Remember you are just demonstrating your idea so the model need not be hi-tech present in a mockup or prototype way.
Printed or Website-based portfolio: It would be better if you could present your portfolio as a hard copy as it is more effective. As technology is flourishing in the present day, there are many websites where you can upload your portfolio. However, there might not be internet access or network problems at your interview centre and this could ruin your entire portfolio presentation process.
In case you wish to demonstrate your portfolio on the laptop then you must ensure that the entire presentation is simple, easy to understand, and not very flashy. Again it would be a bonus point if you add the sketch of some of your thought processes on an A4 or A3 size paper.
A NID portfolio is a collection of an artist’s work that showcases their skills, creativity, and personality.
