Eligibility Criteria of NID DAT 2021



Age limit

1. Aspirants from general and general EWS categories must be upto 20 years of age on or before June 30, 2021

2. OBC-Non Creamy Layer/ST/SC candidates get a relaxation of 3 years.

3. PwD reserved category candidates get an exemption of 5 years

Educational Qualification

Aspirants who have passed or currently appearing in the class 12 examination in any discipline (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities etc) in the academic year 2020-2021 from any recognized board such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or its equivalent are eligible for NID DAT 2021.

Equivalent exam


10+2 final examination from a central or state board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)

The Intermediate or two-year pre-university examination from a board or university recognised by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) is equivalent to the above mentioned qualifying exam. Refer to


Final examination of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy which is of the two-year course.


Senior secondary school examination with a minimum of five subjects from the National Institute of Open Schooling,


The examination completed from any public school, board or University in India or any foreign countries which is equivalent to the 10+2 system under the Association of Indian Universities (AIU)


Aspirants who have passed H.S.C. vocational examination can also apply.


General Certificate Education (GCE) examination at the Advanced (A) level taken in London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka is also equivalent to the qualifying exam mentioned in the above table.


The three-year full time Diploma course (post class 10) is approved by the AICTE which is offered by the Board of Technical Education of any state in India or Union Territories as mentioned on


Candidates who took the 10+2 final examination or its equivalent from foreign countries/overseas or a board which is not mentioned above are required to take a certificate from the AIU to confirm that the examination they have passed is equivalent to the 10+2 examination conducted in India. Candidates must submit the certificate during the document verification.

NID DAT 2021 Admission

The admission of NID DAT 2021 is based on the national level entrance test known as the Design Aptitude Test (DAT), which is conducted in 2 stages – Prelims and Mains. NID offers a Bachelor of Design program across eight courses.

To take admission in any of the courses, candidates have to be eligible and qualify for NID DAT 2021.

Question: What is the age limit as per prescribed by concerned authority for NID DAT 2021


Candidates from the general and general EWS categories must be born on or before 1 July, 2001. However there is a three years relaxation for the candidates from OBC- Non Creamy Layer/ST/SC categories. PwD reserved candidates must be born on or before 1 July, 1996 to be eligible to apply for admission.

NID DAT 2021 application form will be released most likely in the first week of October, 2020. Aspirants can fill the registration form till the third week of November with late fee.

how much do I have to score in Marks, to clear the NID DAT tests? I am in the SC category.

Hello Jeet,

The percentile score required to qualify NID DAT 2020 is 45 for SC category. According   to last year qualifying cut off the percentile required for clearing the test was 40 for SC students.

Percentile is calculated as follows :

Let your rank be 60 and the total number of candidates were 2000 then your percentile will be,

(2000- 60)/2000 *100  = 97

The cut off marks will depend on the number of candidates appearing for the exam.

Dear candidate,

NID DAT MAINS will include drawing as well as sculpture or model making. It will be a three hour paper and the maximum marks that cam be obtained is 100. Unlike the prelims, it will not be in different parts of contain any objective type of aptitude based questions. It will purely be skill based. Hope that answers your query.
