The UCEED 2026 exam pattern has been divided into two parts A and B with Paper-B containing drawing and sketching questions with 50 marks for each. According to the UCEED Syllabus 2026, UCEED entrance exam will have questions on the following topics:
Drawing: Ability to draw products, people, or scenes in proportion with good line quality, composition, proportion, perspective, and shading.
Design Aptitude: Capability to practically and appropriately respond to problems/situations with ingenuity and empathy.
Students preparing for the UCEED exam can go through the following preparation tips curated especially for the Part-B (drawing and design aptitude) section of the UCEED 2026 exam:
One of the most crucial abilities that students must acquire is the ability to articulate their solutions in a creative way. Candidates should think critically about the questions and come up with answers. Practice coming up with compositions or scenarios that convey a narrative.
Since many of the UCEED exam's questions focus on product or object design, students should focus on creating original, innovative and practical product design. Therefore, it is advised for aspiring students to practice coming up with new designs for already existing products and practice sketching them with different views to represent accurately how they work.

The UCEED exam does not allow students to use rulers or any other drawing tools, therefore drawing without the aid of rulers or compasses can be intimidating for students in the exam. To overcome this students should practice drawing freehand sketches and work on their line and weight control. Use objects like trees, flowers, and clouds to practice creating natural, flowing lines.
Students' ability to sketch and physically communicate their thoughts is assessed in the drawing and sketching section of the UCEEED exam. It assesses candidates' originality, basic sketching abilities, and conceptual representation capabilities. Usually, candidates are requested to sketch settings, objects, or even abstract ideas.
To prepare for the section: practice perspective sketches (public spaces, train platforms, room interiors etc.), figure drawing (human and animal), storeyboarding.
Students are judged on their approach for tasks in an imaginative and original way. Being able to generate and develop ideas visually that are new and practical in their application is very important to crack the UCEED exam.
To prepare for the section: practice their memory skills by drawing and sketching everyday objects/scenarios. Try to come up with new solutions for existing products.
Regularly take UCEED mock tests under timed conditions. This helps you practice handling time constraints and boosts confidence.
Solve UCEED sample Papers and UCEED previous year questions. Identify areas where you tend to take more time and work on improving speed without compromising accuracy.
Aspiring students are advised to also go through the UCEED previous year’s drawing questions to help them in their preparation for the UCEED 2026 and understand types of questions:
Ques. A visit to a museum or a zoo is always something we look forward to with much excitement. But such visits are very tiring too; after about an hour or so we look for a place to sit – a chair or bench, that is never nearby. What if we could carry our own chair everywhere? Design a portable seating device that you could carry in your backpack or hand bag. It should be light enough to carry around, small enough to fit into your bag, easy to use, and good to look at.
Show the seating device when:
1) it has just been taken out of the bag and
2) it is ready to sit on.
Solution:

Approach:
The most crucial first step is to thoroughly read the question and understand what is asked.
Make at least three perspectives for questions about product design. Your score will rise if you shade textures and materials correctly.
Make sure your presentations are tidy and clean.
Concept:
A portable inflatable seat with a foldable backrest.
Folded State:
When deflated, the seat is small enough to roll up and carry in a pouch.
Includes a hand pump stored in the pouch.
Expanded State:
Inflatable seat with an integrated backrest, secured by straps for stability.
Ideal for uneven surfaces, providing cushioned comfort.
Ques: Read and visualize the following:
• A rat is spotted inside a school canteen.
• A school boy is afraid and standing on a stool/chair.
• A brave school girl is chasing the rat out of the canteen.
• A tiffin box is falling on the floor.
• Two school bags and two water bottles are kept on a table.
• A few plates are broken and lying on the floor.
• The canteen owner is watching this in shock, standing on top of the counter table.
Sketch this scene from the canteen owner’s point of view.
Solution:

Approach:
For the perspective drawing section, students should focus on shading and depth to produce realistic scenes for these drawing questions.
Human figures and other objects should have proportions that are appropriate for their surroundings.
Shading to show depth and material will help you score better in the exam.
Ques: Design Aptitude [50 Marks]
A six-year old girl is going to school for the first time. She needs to carry a lunch box in her school bag. Her lunch can contain typical Indian food items (both dry as well as liquid food items, such as Roti, Rice, Dosa, Dal, Sambar, etc.). Design a lunch box for her, considering her needs. Sketch your design, and visually explain the features of your design along with clear labels.
Note:
Use only a pencil. Do not use colors.
Explain your design only through visuals and short labels.
Do not write separate explanations.
