NID 2025 Studio Test Analysis
Part A: Detailed Analysis
Question Types: Audio-Visual + Poetry Narration and Writing
Assessment Type: Sensory-Assessment & Observation Skills
Duration for Section: 60 minutes ( 20 marks)
Difficulty Level: Moderate to Easy
Q1: To a given video you need to provide the appropriate title.
Video Description: “Indian Workers working on a mountain in harsh conditions, ironically compared with bullocks and zebras, struggling for survival +Volcano(symbolising the struggle for survival) “
Audio-Video based questions were easy to moderate since the correlation of elements of Video-Sound and the message was easy but metaphorically presented. The Video Depicted a large number of Worker in a common situation working hard for survival, as suggested by the interim clips of the animals shown struggling to survive living in herds for safety and security ( basic needs of a Social species). The sound modulations were loud and fully in harmony with the video narration showing struggles of a common man.
Poetry : Poetry was tough due to the difficulty level of the text, as it was difficult to interpret and make sense. Additionally the visually depiction post match the correct phrases of the same pottery given in jumbled format was time consuming.
*We Will be providing the original compilation of the questions soon.
Part B: Detailed Analysis
Question Types: Visualisation and Reflection (Sketching and Problem Solving)
Assessment Type: Design Principles and Sketching Skills
Duration for Section: 45 minutes ( 40 marks)
Difficulty Level: Moderate to Difficult (Time Consuming)
Sketching and Visualisation-based Reflection:
Question: You are travelling with your family for vacation to the railway station, where the escalator is non-functional, so you choose to go through stairs, where you see “ A foot Limbed physically disabled person is trying to take stairs” to cross the Railway station.
From the Point-of-view of disabled, narrate the whole experience of taking stairs and crossing through an overbridge. Depict the whole situation visually to identify the challenges from his point of view
Analysis : The given situation was very practical and a daily life observation of each of us, but often ignored. The question was designed to analyse your observation, reflecting and sketching skills to explain the challenge. The question posed the challenge from the following aspects :
Identifying the Problem
Visualising the Angle for Sketch (View Angle)
Visualization of the challenges
Narration of the incidence
Limitation of Space
Time Management to draw 10 frames.
Visual Storytelling was difficult. One needs to have a very crisp view for narration and reflection of the given scenario to meet the question's expected understanding, and reflecting the elements and perspective of a Railway Station to fill the surrounding and activities to complement the whole scenario.
*Additionally ability to empathise and sensitivity of a candidate to surroundings was well gauged for Design Aptitude as a primary trait.
Part C : Detailed Analysis
Question Types : Material Understanding and Model-Making
Assessment Type : Material handling and Craft Skills + Problem Solving
Duration for Section : 75 minutes ( 40 marks)
Difficulty Level: Moderate to Difficult (Bamboo As a challenging material to handle)
You have to make a working Wind-Mill from the provided materials as follows. You have to use at least two or more materials in your model
Cotton Cloth (Handkerchief Size)
Jute Rope (03 meter)
Color paper Strips (16 colors)
Bamboo Sticks (12 pieces, 30 cm)

Instructions : Your model should sustain the structure Model should me working (Rotating)
*Don’t use paper cutter or tape, only scissor and glue could be used
Analysis : Bamboo as material was first introduced in Studio-Test in the NID-Studio Test, which is a difficult material to work with due to tensile and rigid properties, if not regularly used by a candidate. Limitation of not using any tool or adhesive made the material and overall process difficult to work, how to make a hole.
Crafting is a skill which would have come only if one has practised the material in past to understand the limitations and possibilities with the material.
Model-making was to be done using the additive process, to save time and work as per instruction where the creativity and problem solving skills are tested in the real time.
Mechanism based questions need functional understanding to qualify the criteria for the exam, where the stability and understanding of mechanical principles is crucial for a candidate to meet the exam requirements.
