NIFT 2019NIFT 2019 - National Institute of Fashion Technology conducts NIFT entrance exam for admissions to a total of 2,370 seats across Bachelor of Design (B.Des) and Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech) programmes. NIFT 2019, a pen and paper-based admission test, will be held in the third week January for admissions across 16 campuses of the institute located in Chennai, New Delhi, Gandhinagar, Bhopal, Jodhpur, Kangra, Bhubaneshwar, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kannur, Raebareli, Shillong, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Patna and Srinagar. Candidates seeking admissions to NIFT B.Des programme have to appear for Creative Ability Test (CAT) as well as General Ability Test (GAT). Shortlisted candidates will be required to take the NIFT Situation Test in April-May. For admission to B.F.Tech programme, candidates have to take GAT only. NIFT Exam Pattern 2019

NIFT 2019 will test the candidates’ knowledge, skill and aptitude for the programme chosen by them. Those seeking admissions to NIFT 2019 B.Des programme have to appear for Creative Ability Test (CAT) as well as General Ability Test (GAT). Shortlisted candidates will be required to take the NIFT Situation Test in April-May 2019.

Creative Ability Test (CAT) for NIFT 2019 Bachelor of Design

CAT will judge the intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development and design ability of the candidates. An important aspect of the test is to evaluate the creative and innovative use of colour and illustration skills.

Situation Test for NIFT 2019 Bachelor of Design (B.Des.)

The shortlisted candidates after the written entrance examination will have to appear for the situation test, which will be a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials. No additional material will be provided/allowed to them.

Prof. Sanjay Shrivastava, Director, NIFT Patna, who is also the additional in-charge of NIFT Bhubaneswar, shares, “You must not only prepare well, but also perfect the art of presenting your knowledge in the best possible manner.” He also says that time management, good health and stress control are three additional tools to focus on.

To crack NIFT CAT, Sreenanda Palit, Associate Professor & Centre Coordinator (Fashion Communication), NIFT Kolkata, advises, “You should be 100 percent original. You should think out of the box in order to secure a good score. Try to be as creative as possible.”

Moreover, solving previous years’ papers will let you know the sequence in which you should answer different sections. “Look into your weaker segments and try to work on those. Plan out daily sessions to nourish your skills”, recommends Prof. Sanjay.

NIFT 2018 Exam Analysis

The entrance exam evaluated candidates’ intuitive ability, observation power in the development of a concept and design ability. Along with that, creative and innovative use of illustration and color skills were tested.

The important highlights of NIFT 2018 entrance exam are as follows:

  • There were three questions in CAT that had to be completed in three hours. One was to make a boat with a piece of paper, just like origami. Another question was on how to change a bulb.

  • Test-takers had to draw a bag for wedding or picnic, and to describe it properly in 5-6 lines. One question was on drawing a geometrical figure that describes their personality.

  • GAT was very easy and the questions were on the expected lines. English section was a bit confusing though. Questions regarding education, technology, etc. were asked in case study section. Reasoning was of basic level.

  • Mathematics was okay, GK a bit tough, English good, and case study a little tricky. Analytical questions were also easy. 

  • Most of the candidates found the paper to be of easy to moderate difficulty level. They opined that they didn't feel any need to enroll themselves for coaching classes during the preparation phase.

There will be no minimum required to attent the entrance exam of NIFT. But the thing is you have to be Qualified in the 12th. And you can apply when the result is out.
