NIFT Personal Interview Questions and Answers

Given that NIFT is one of the most sought-after fashion design colleges in India, the interview process can be quite challenging. It is therefore important to be fully prepared before appearing in front of the Panel. Any interview can be easily cracked if the candidate has a general understanding of the kind of questions that would be asked, so as to ensure that no question will surprise the candidate. Once the question is understood, it is also highly advisable to prepare a rough sketch of the answer to be given. Given below is a set of most repeated NIFT personal interview questions from the previous years. Common NIFT Personal Interview Questions

Introduce yourself to us.

Give an overview of all positive things that define you. Talk about the family background, education, daily routine, hobbies, achievements, fitness routine, ideal job, goal in life etc.

Talk about the outfit you are wearing today? Why did you choose it for this occasion?

One can talk about the Individual pieces that make up their outfits, their cultural significance, patterns, color combination, brand value, embroidery, origin, sustainability etc. To stand out from amongst the rest, justify how each piece complements the other.

Why do you think that you deserve a seat in NIFT?

Talk about the interest and talents in the field of fashion, substantiate with a portfolio of your works. Prepare factual responses with regards to the legacy of the Institute and relate it to the career aspirations that you have in mind for yourself. Most importantly, highlight the special features of the Course that you are aiming for.

What do you know about fast-fashion and what is your take on it?

Discuss the rise of frequent change in apparel trends, brand consciousness, environmental and ethical implications etc. Give your opinion on it, that is not too controversial.

Talk about the embroidery/weave/handloom that is famous to your region (or any region in India).

To answer such questions, candidates must have in-depth knowledge of at least the most famous craft clusters of the nation. Such questions must be answered very passionately.

Do you have any established fashion brand/ designer that you admire? What do you admire about them?

Be honest and explain your choice confidently. If you ae not prepared for an answer, do not worry, let the interview panel know that you do not have any or cannot think of any at the moment.

What are your career goals? Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years? How do you think you will contribute to the heritage of NIFT?

Your answer must convince the panel that you are a long-term thinker. A unique answer to this question must talk about the step’s that you are currently taking to achieve the goals that you have set for yourself.

Besides these questions candidates can also expect questions like-

1.What is your personal style?

2. What excites you the most about the fashion industry?

3. How would you relate to past and present fashion trends?

4. Do you have any other passion, apart from fashion?

Tips to face the NIFT Interview

This round is not as much focused on your knowledge as it is on your attitude. Keep these tips in mind whilst you prepare and appear for the interview.

  • If you are not comfortable with English, you can also give the interview in Hindi.

  • Do not hesitate to express your opinion, be honest to yourself and your values.

  • Be convinced that you are worthy of a seat in this prestigious institute.

  • Try to maintain the flow of your thought, do not hesitate to approach the panellists for any help.

  • Avoid giving irrelevant responses. Limit your answers to only what you have been asked. You should not make yourself look like you are an expert in everything.

  • If you have any preference when it comes to the course/branch, feel free to express it to the panel.

1. Is it mandatory to submit a portfolio of previous works to the interview panel?

No. However, submitting one will make the candidate stand out from the other candidates.

2. When will the Interview be conducted?

NIFT personal Interview is usually conducted in the month of April.

3. Is there a specific dress code for the NIFT personal interview round?

There is no specific dress code as such, however, students should dress formally. 

4. Will there be a group discussion round along with the PI round?

Currently, there is no Group Discussion round, as it has been discontinued after corona restrictions have been removed.

5. In which mode will the NIFT personal interview be conducted?

The interview will be conducted in the offline mode. The date and venue of the interview would be conveyed to the invited candidates through the admit card well in advance.

6. What type of questions are asked in NIFT?

In the NIFT personal interview, questions typically focus on personal background, interest in fashion design, portfolio review, career goals, skills and strengths, geneeral awarness. NIFT personal interview questions helps the authorities evaluate the student passion for fashion, creativity, and suitability for the program.

7. Is there an interview round for NIFT?

Yes, there is an interview round for NIFT for some undergraduate and postgraduate design programmes.

Hello aspirant,

The nationwide Institute of Fashion Technology offers a nationwide entrance exam called NIFT for admission to its fashion design programmes.

Every course has specific requirements that must be met in order to apply. For NIFT, there is no minimum age requirement, however it is evident that passing the 10+2 exam is a requirement in order to be admitted to any undergraduate programme in fashion design.


You cannot be admitted because you are in class eleven. However, you can apply to NIFT for experience and practice, and if your application is accepted, you can take the entrance exam. If you pass, however, be aware that you will not be able to retain your results for admission.

Yes! If you want to pursue your under graduation from nift after 12th or even if you are appearing for12th exam then you are eligible to apply for the exam. There are several courses offered by nift which includes undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.


Age (Undergraduate degree programmes) -

  • General - the maximum age should be less than 24 years as on 1st august in the year of examination
  • Reserved category - 5 years relaxation

NIFT 2023 ELIGIBILITY - B.DES admission

1. Aspiring students must have completed a 10+2 board exam from any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education/State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi or,

2. Any Board/Public School/University Examination conducted in India or abroad which is equivalent to the 10+2 system and is accorded by the Association of Indian Universities or,

3. If candidates complete the General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Sri Lanka/ Cambridge/) at the Advanced (A) level/International Baccalaureate (IB) then, they are eligible to apply or,

4. Students will also be eligible if they have passed the 10+2 examination conducted by the National Open School with at least five subjects or,

5. Diploma of 3 or 4 years which is recognized by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education.

Age limit - Candidates must be of 23 years of age as of August 1, 2022. However, candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Person With Disability (PHP) get a relaxation of 5 years

Eligibility for B.F.Tech admission

1. Students must pass the Class 12 exam in the 10+2 pattern of examination with Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects from any recognized Central/ State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi or,

2. Any Public School/Board/University Exam in India or in foreign countries which is equivalent to a 10+2 system with Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics as a mandatory subjects. It must be recognized by the Association of Indian Universities or,

3. General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination(London/ Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at the advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/International Baccalaureate (IB) or,

4. Diploma of 3 or 4 years in any programme of engineering which is recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education or,

5. A passing grade in the Higher Secondary Education Examination held by the National Open School with at least five subjects - Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics

Age limit is same as B.des

For BVoc courses in interior design, separate entrance exams are conducted by the concerned colleges. By giving NIFT you can only get admission in BDes and MDes courses in NIFTs and some other participating institutes.

In 2022 NIFT Entrance Examination was conducted in 32 cities. The candidates have to select the preference of the examination cities while filling the application form. Based on the availability, preferences of the examination cities you will be allotted an examination center. You have to appear for NIFT Entrance Examination in the allotted examination center as per the given schedule. You can select any city where examination is conducted while filling your preferences, make sure that you select the cities such that you can commute on the day of examination easily. Next year the list of examination cities may increase or decrease, the cities may vary.
