The National Institute of Fashion Technology has extended the NIFT 2024 Counselling registration date till June 15 for the NLEA candidates. The NIFT counselling choice filling and locking last date is June 19. The NIFT counselling 2024 registration link is available at nift.admissions.nic.in. The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the NIFT 2024 final result for BDes (NLEA) and BFTech (NLEA) on May 14.

The NIFT 2024 Situation Test was conducted for the BDes (NLEA) and BFTech (NLEA) candidates on April 13. The National Testing Agency (NTA) released the NIFT lateral entry admission 2024 exam question paper and answer key in February. Aspirants had to use their registration email ID and password to download the NLEA lateral entry admission exam answer key. The authorities conducted the entrance exam for NIFT lateral entry admission 2024 on February 5.

What is NIFT lateral entry admission 2024?

NIFT lateral entry admission (NLEA) is the opportunity for the candidates provided by NIFT, who have completed their diploma in relevant fields of fashion design and technology. Candidates will get direct admission to the third semester of UG programs at any of the NIFT campuses.

Eligible candidates have to take the All India entrance examination to get admission into NIFT campuses for lateral entry. NIFT lateral entry entrance examination includes a written examination, studio test/technology aptitude test, and a personal interview. The lateral entry NIFT admission scheme is strictly based on the merit achieved by the candidates.

To get admission as lateral entry into NIFT, candidates must follow the admission procedure given by the NIFT. This procedure includes the eligibility criteria, submission of certificates, entrance exam, and merit score. The final dates will be updated accordingly.

NIFT lateral entry admission eligibility

The eligibility for NIFT admission - lateral entry is that the candidate must be 24 years of age as of August 1st. For Scheduled Castes/Schedule Tribe/Persons with Disabilities (PWD) candidates, the relaxation of 5 years is given for the upper age limit.

The eligibility criteria for BDes and B.FTech have a slight difference. Candidates are required to fulfill the eligible criteria. Hence, the criteria of eligibility for each course are as follows.

NIFT lateral entry admission requirements for BDes Course

The requirements for eligibility for the BDes course are as follows.

  • The candidate must have passed the 10th/secondary school examination (OR) must have passed the 12th/senior secondary examination recognized by the AIU.

  • Must have passed 3 or 4 years of diploma course recognized by the AICTE/AIU/UGC or a state board of technical education.

  • Candidates after passing their 12th/senior secondary examination must have completed a 2 year of regular UG diploma course at NIFT (OR) and must have undergone any course in fashion/textile and accessories/apparel/handloom technology/home science/graphic design/visual communication/products/industrial design/apparel technology/interior design/leather/multimedia design.

Nift lateral entry admission requirements for B. FTech Course

The eligibility requirements for the B.FTech course are mentioned below.

  • The candidate must have passed the 10th/secondary school examination

  • Must have passed 3 or 4 years of textile engineering/textile technology/textile chemistry diploma recognized by AICTE or a state board of technical education (OR) must have passed the senior secondary examination/12th recognized by the AIU with physics, chemistry, and mathematics.

  • Completed a diploma, including NIFT of 2 years concerning apparel/fashion/textile/ handloom technology/home science.

General eligibility for lateral entry admission to NIFT / Who should apply?

  • Candidates with a science background with a degree/diploma in engineering are eligible to apply for the Bachelor of Fashion Technology program with the Apparel Technology specialization and also for the BDes program.

  • Candidates having an interest/aptitude in fashion design/creativity /innovation may apply for the BDes program.

  • Candidates who fulfill the age of 24 years are eligible for NIFT lateral entry admission.

Registered candidates could download the admit cards from the official website. To download the admit card, the applicants had to log in using their registration number and date of birth.

Note: The admit cards for the lateral entry examination of NIFT will not be sent by post.

The nationwide Institute of Fashion Technology offers a nationwide entrance exam called NIFT for admission to its fashion design programmes.

Every course has specific requirements that must be met in order to apply. For NIFT, there is no minimum age requirement, however it is evident that passing the 10+2 exam is a requirement in order to be admitted to any undergraduate programme in fashion design.


You cannot be admitted because you are in class eleven. However, you can apply to NIFT for experience and practice, and if your application is accepted, you can take the entrance exam. If you pass, however, be aware that you will not be able to retain your results for admission.

NIFT 2023 ELIGIBILITY - B.DES admission

1. Aspiring students must have completed a 10+2 board exam from any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education/State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi or,

2. Any Board/Public School/University Examination conducted in India or abroad which is equivalent to the 10+2 system and is accorded by the Association of Indian Universities or,

3. If candidates complete the General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Sri Lanka/ Cambridge/) at the Advanced (A) level/International Baccalaureate (IB) then, they are eligible to apply or,

4. Students will also be eligible if they have passed the 10+2 examination conducted by the National Open School with at least five subjects or,

5. Diploma of 3 or 4 years which is recognized by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education.

Age limit - Candidates must be of 23 years of age as of August 1, 2022. However, candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Person With Disability (PHP) get a relaxation of 5 years

Eligibility for B.F.Tech admission

1. In 2022 NIFT Entrance Examination was conducted in 32 cities. The candidates have to select the preference of the examination cities while filling the application form. Based on the availability, preferences of the examination cities you will be allotted an examination center. You have to appear for NIFT Entrance Examination in the allotted examination center as per the given schedule. You can select any city where examination is conducted while filling your preferences, make sure that you select the cities such that you can commute on the day of examination easily. Next year the list of examination cities may increase or decrease, the cities may vary.
