Question Analysis
Q1 : Choose any one of the following themes and create a 3D model. Draw inspiration from the character of any book you like. In 100 words, explain the concept and inspiration behind your design:
1. Habitat of the character
2. Children’s park
3. Mask inspired by a character from your favorite book
Q2 : Using the given materials, construct a 3D futuristic model of any one of the following options. In 100 words, describe your model and the key design features:
1. Movie theatre
2. Mall
3. Playground or sports complex
The term “futuristic” was intentionally open-ended in the second question, which left many students unsure about the direction to take. Some interpreted it as advanced technology (robots, smart homes), while others visualized space habitats or eco-friendly cities. This ambiguity required extra time to juggle with ideas demanding a proper plan before execution to 3D Model.
Student Experience Scenario : One student attempted to build a “Smart City” with elevated walkways and solar panels using straws and colored paper, but struggled to balance the structure, leading to a partially collapsed model by the end of the test.
Students can go through the following table below to get an in-depth understanding on the key experience areas and challenges for NIFT Situation Test 2025 with the analysis:
S No. | Experience Areas | Analysis |
Questions with Open-Ended Themes | The “futuristic” theme, while exciting, was equally broad that it led to confusion and indecision. Students spent a significant portion of their time just conceptualising, with less time for actual construction and refinement.
Material | The option to use 19+ materials options to choose from, the abundance was both a blessing and a curse. Some students wasted time experimenting with different materials.
Structural Stability of Models | Many students underestimated the difficulty of creating stable models. Those who attempted ambitious structures often faced issues with balance and durability of proposed models, leading to incomplete or broken models.
Time Pressure | The fixed two-hour window proved barely enough for ideation, construction, and the required write-up. Students who spent too long planning often rushed the build, affecting the quality of their models.
Write-Up Constraints | Condensing the concept, design choices, and material usage into just 100 words was tricky. Some students struggled to clearly articulate their ideas within the word limit. |
See the table below to get an overview and understanding of the overall review of the NIFT 2025 Question Paper:
1. | Difficulty Level | Moderate |
2. | Time Management | Since the exam was oriented to model making, which requires an awareness of material and corresponding properties. Thus wide use of material was a significant factor in the time requirement. |
3. | What Students Liked | Creative thinking for Model Making based questions, a Variety of Materials as an option for Model making in NIFT examination. |
4. | Challenges | Time-consuming due to a lack of clarity on expectations, as the rubrics for evaluations. |
5. | New Additions | None |
The Situation test for NIFT 2025 was moderately difficult, but the real challenge was time management in tandem with the theme and requirements of the questions asked. The quality of attempt depended on quick thinking, hands-on skills, and the ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely.
