The NID admission examination is one of the most renowned and challenging design entrance tests in India, with thousands of students taking it each year.     NID Exam Pattern 2026

    Students need to understand the NID DAT Exam Pattern for better understanding of the exam and to create better preparation strategies. As per the revised selection process , the NID DAT 2026 prelims result will not have any weightage in the final selection of candidates for B.Des and M.Des programmes. The NID 2026 prelims exam will be a qualifying exam to shortlist candidates for the mains exam. NID Mains exam will have 60% weightage for studio test and 40% weightage for in person interview for NID B.Des selection.

    It is also important for students to understand weightage distribution per topic to prepare effectively. Students can look at NID DAT sample papers to have an in-depth understanding of the syllabus and how to approach the exam. The pattern is as follows:

    Drawing Fundamentals

    The NID DAT tests a candidate’s basic drawing skills, such as perspective, shading, texture, and composition. Candidates should be able to draw simple objects and scenes accurately and realistically.

    Design Theory
