Last Errors of Plastic - Wearable garbage for a sustainable world

Shinny has always been deeply affected by India‘s waste management crisis. When she arrived in Delhi to start her life as a college student at Pearl Academy, she was disgusted to see the amount of garbage disfiguring the face of India‘s mighty capital. Delhi generates more than 10,000 tonnes of garbage every day, most of which stacks up in ugly hills, posing environmental and public-safety hazards. Urban India‘s waste management issue is further complicated because recyclables, organic wastes and toxic wastes are all dumped

Biological Leather Technology

An empirical study to evaluate the feasibility of introducing Bio Leather Tech in the Indian Market Biological Leather Technology facilitates the fabrication of leather without having to kill an animal in the process. Traditional leather supply chains can be arduous and difficult to manage. The irregular shape of animal hides can lead to 20 to 30 percent of animal skins going to waste regularly. It also involves the raising and slaughtering of billions of animals in a process that is inefficient, cruel and comes with huge environmental impact. A revolution in biotechnology has enabled scientists to grow natural leather using just the DNA strands and collagen of animals in a controlled laboratory scenario. This has led to the creation of a material that is biologically — and perceptibly — almost indistinguishable from animal leather.

For his final thesis project at Pearl Academy, Simarjiv has studied the possibilities and advantages of introducing this revolutionary technology to India. He saw the leather industry as holding a prominent place in the Indian economy.
