This is where the fun begins. Start observing everyday objects and your surroundings.
Why is a chair designed that way ?
What is the height of the room you are sitting in (Proportional Understanding) ?
Toppers develop a habit of carrying the notebook and jotting down observations and sketching quick ideas.
This is probably the most common advice, but it is true. Solving the NID mock test 2026 will not only help in preparation but also boost candidates' confidence for the exam and help with the stress and anxiety for the actual exam.
Step 01: Simulation
Take as many full-length mocks for tests as you can.
Simulate the exam conditions - set a timer, use OMR sheet and avoid distraction in the meantime.
Step 02: Evaluation
After each test, don’t worry about your score, analyse your mistakes.
Why did you get it wrong?
Was it a knowledge gap or a silly mistake?
Can there be other approaches?
This is another often repeated tip, but equally crucial. Through your practice session, figure out the time allocation required for each section looking at your strengths and weaknesses. Remember it’s better to attempt more questions accurately than to get stuck on a few, for NID DAT 2026 strategise your attempt looking at the negative marking. If there is no-negative mark, it is better to attempt the most questions in your spare time.

Preparing without any feedback is like preparation in isolation. Share your ideas and sketches or any other original content with your teachers, mentors, peers for constructive criticism. Join online forums or study groups for the NID exam where others are also sharing the work and preparation strategies.
“Learning from the other’s experiences save you from the a lot of trial and error’
Your initial or early attempts will not be perfect, which is completely okay since design is an iterative (improving by doing) process evolving with the different style, techniques and ideas. The NID DAT exam values originality and fresh perspective, which eventually evolves with your experimentation.
It is easier said than done, but practising staying calm for better performs better. Get enough sleep the night before the NID exam day, and have a good breakfast. Before beginning to take a few deep breaths and trust your preparation. Remember you’ve put in work, and now it’s time to show your skills.
While the written exams are crucial, Design is not for extraordinary people, rather it is for ordinary people with extraordinary efforts. What makes a design, or portfolio effective, are extraordinary efforts to communicate your idea very simply.
For example, a simple depiction of Pythagoras' Theorem to make it understandable even to class two students is a good piece of design that could make a strong portfolio. Only the crucial factor is looking at how a student would learn, which can be through digital or physical mediums.

Hi daksh
As 563 rank in nid dat exam cannot guarantee admission in designing college but it could be a good chance to explore some campus as if you are not from general category as category role plays an important role . But now you can do one thing focus on your strengthening your protofile or preparing for the studio test (bdes) or interview (mdes).
Thanks.
No, IPU (Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University) does not accept NID DAT Prelims score for admission to the B.Des (Bachelor of Design) program.
Instead, IPU conducts its own entrance test or may consider CUET (UG) scores for B.Des admissions, depending on the latest admission guidelines. Always refer to the university's official prospectus for the year you're applying to for the final admission criteria.
