Careers360: Tell us something about yourself. (a bit of the background, like graduation, place and any such thing)
Yash Kaushik: I’m a final-year Interior Design student from New Delhi. I really enjoy the technical side of design and finding ways to make spaces work better for people.
Careers360: Tell us something about your college/ university and what made you choose it
Yash Kaushik: I study at Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS) because they focus on teaching skills that are actually used in the industry. It’s a great place for getting hands-on experience and learning how to handle real-world projects.
Careers360: What is the course you are pursuing at your college/ university, and what made you choose this specialisation?
Yash Kaushik: I am pursuing a Bachelor of Design specialising in Interior Design, a field I chose because of my passion for transforming complex spaces into functional, aesthetically sound environments. I find the intersection of technical drafting and creative problem-solving particularly rewarding.
Careers360: Is an internship mandatory at your University? If yes, where did you pursue it, and what was the duration? What were the steps to get into it?
Yash Kaushik: Internships are mandatory, and I completed my training at firms like Design Accord (6 months). The process involved a portfolio review followed by interviews where I demonstrated my proficiency in 3D visualisation, technical drawings and site management.
Careers360: Please give details on the assistance you received from the faculty, peers and placement office with regard to the internships?
Yash Kaushik: The faculty offered invaluable guidance on portfolio development, while the placement office helped bridge the gap between academia and the professional world. My peers and I also maintained a collaborative environment, sharing insights on firm expectations and site-specific challenges.
Careers360: How was your experience with the internship? What are the key takeaways that you can look back on from it?
Yash Kaushik: The experience was transformative, providing me with hands-on exposure to everything from drafting 3D visualisations to handling client interactions on-site. My key takeaways are the importance of technical precision and the ability to adapt design concepts to real-world logistical constraints.
