    The NIFT 2026 counselling process is underway. A common question confronting many students is whether studying at NIFT is costly. After all, candidates have to pay Rs 9300 just for counselling registration. The candidates also have to pay an admission fee of Rs 191700 to confirm their admission if they obtain the NIFT 2026 seat allotment. Additionally, they have to bear the remaining expenses included in the NIFT fees structure. In this article, let’s try to understand whether studying in NIFT costly and whether one should opt out of the NIFT counselling process.

    The authorities are conducting NIFT counselling in three rounds, followed by a spot round for admission into BDes, BFTech, MDes, MFTech, and MFM programmes of 20 NIFT campuses in India.

    Is Studying in NIFT Costly?

    Yes, studying in NIFT is slightly expensive. The total fee for a 4-year BDes programme for regular students is Rs 1409400. However, it must also be understood that the NIFT campuses are among the top design colleges in India, supported by excellent infrastructure, industry-aligned curriculum and qualified faculty. Selected students will be able to secure education loans through banks to finance their education.

    The table below provides the four-year NIFT 2026 fee structure for regular students. For PG programmes, only the first two years should be considered.

    Should You Withdraw From NIFT Counselling 2026?

    While it is true that studying in NIFT is a little expensive, students must think twice before withdrawing from the counselling process. The career opportunities after graduating from NIFT are immense. Let’s look at some of the NIFT placement highlights below, which can help students decide whether they should opt out of the NIFT 2026 counselling process and secure admission at some other college.

    • As per the 2024-25 annual report, the authorities decided on a major policy decision, which allowed only those companies offering a minimum salary threshold to participate in the NIFT placement process. The minimum CTC p.a for Phase 1 has been fixed at Rs. 7 LPA for PG and 6 LPA for UG. The minimum CTC per annum for Phase 2 has been fixed at Rs. 6 LPA for PG and 5 LPA for UG. The Phase 1 placement process is conducted offline and Phase 2 is conducted online.

    • Top campuses such as NIFT Delhi and Mumbai often see over 90% of the students getting placed. The average placement percentage at NIFT is also over 70%

    • The NIFT placements is a centralised process which allows students from all campuses to participate in the process, and companies are also free to recruit from any campus.

    • Students have to compulsorily take up internships in the pre-final and final semesters, which provide them with industry exposure and make them job-ready
