The National Institute of Design has notified the revised tie-breaking policy for NID final result for BDes and MDes result. The tie-breaking policy will be used to rank candidates if they have obtained the same score in the NID DAT result. As per the revised selection process for the NID entrance exam, candidates will be selected based on marks in the NID mains only.
Earlier, NID DAT 2026 prelims were conducted on December 21, 2025. Shortlisted candidates are eligible for NID mains in the ratio of 1:1.5 for NID BDes mains and 1:4 for NID MDes mains.
Given below are the details of the revised tie-breaking policy for selection into NID BDes and MDes programmes based on the NID mains result.
If in case the total marks scored by two or more candidates are the same, the following tiebreak policy will be used for awarding ranks in the final merit list:
A higher rank will be assigned to a candidate who has secured a higher rank in the studio sensitivity test (test 1)
If the tie persists, a higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has got higher marks in the studio sensitivity test, Question no. 3
If the tie continues, a higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who got higher marks in the studio sensitivity test - question no. 1
If the tie remains unresolved, then the same rank will be allotted to both candidates
