What is NID?

NID stands for National Institute of Design. The National Institute of Design is among the top design colleges in India. There are 7 NID campuses in India located at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Gandhinagar, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Assam. Among them, NID Ahmedabad is often considered the top-ranked college.

How to Get Admission in NID 2027?

To secure admission, candidates have to first appear for the NID prelims exam. The NID DAT prelims 2027 will be held on December 20, 2026. As per the NID selection process, the NID prelims is a qualifying exam, and the marks will not be carried forward into the mains.

Candidates who are shortlisted in the NID prelims have to appear for the NID mains. The mains consist of a studio test and an interview. The final rank and admissions will be based on the candidate’s performance in the NID mains. The selection process weightage is given below.

NID 2027 Prelims

The NID 2027 prelims is the first stage of NID DAT. It is conducted in offline mode. Only those candidates who score more than the qualifying marks in NID prelims will be shortlisted for NID mains. The prelims scores will not be carried forward for the mains. The NID DAT syllabus for NID prelims includes topics from GK, Basic science, logical reasoning, visual reasoning and pattern recognition, drawing and sketching, creative and user-centric product design, design principles and design history.

How to Apply for NID DAT?

The NID 2027 applications are open from September 10 to November 30, 2026. Candidates can register online on the official website - admissions.nid.edu. First candidates have to provide basic details such as name, email address, mobile number and date of birth to generate login credentials. Next, candidates must log in and fill up the application form particulars and pay the application fee to complete the application form

NID Admission Process 2027: Step-by-Step

Candidates who qualify both stages of the entrance exam must appear for the NID counselling process to secure seat allotment. Given below are the steps int eh NID admission process.

• Register for the NID exam by filling up the application form

• Appear for NID prelims

• Publication of NID DAT prelims result by the authorities

• Shortlisted candidates must appear for the NID mains - studio test and interview

• Publication of final NID result by the authorities

• Qualified candidates must register for the counselling process

• Publication of NID seat allotment by the authorities

• Selected candidates must accept the seat and complete fee payment to finalise their seat allotment

NID DAT Cutoff / Qualifying Criteria

Only those candidates who clear the NID prelims cutoff will be eligible to appear for the mains. For NID BDes mains,candidates equalling 2.5 times the number of seats available under each category will be selected from the prelims.

For NID MDes mains, candidates equalling 4.5 times the number of seats available under each category will be selected from the prelims.

The final result will be declared as per the performance in the NID mains. Candidates have to clear the NID cutoff to secure seat allotment.
