Most of the students who are participating in the NID DAT exam have one common question: what kind of portfolio does NID accept during the selection process? As every year, thousands of students appear for the NID entrance exam, and students have very common doubts about the examination and selection process. Most of the students who don’t know about the portfolio tend to copy or replicate other prefect portfolios. Rather than copying, it's advised to build a portfolio even if it turns out to be imperfect. Candidates having their own original work get selected faster in the NID admissions process. All the students who are interested in appearing for the NID DAT exam should know that the NID admissions will be mainly based on the entrance exam process. The NID DAT exam includes DAT prelims and DAT mains. Even though students who clear the DAT prelims exam, all the selected candidates will be called for the DAT mains exam, which is also considered the main stage of the examination. All the shortlisted candidates from the NID prelims should appear for the studio test and interview round in the NID DAT mains exam. During this stage, candidates will be asked to present the portfolio of their past creative work.
Based on previous years’ trends and student portfolios available on the official website, candidates should present a collection of creative works that showcase their skills, ideas, and interest in design. For the portfolio round, authorities do not prescribe any sort of fixed format. Candidates are allowed to showcase their creativity, originality, ideas, and thoughts behind the process. The portfolio should highlight candidates’ creativity and ability to think differently, rather than focusing only on professional-looking work. The points below explain the types of portfolios that can be submitted during the NID selection process.
Students can include:
Sketches and drawings
Paintings and illustrations
Photography projects
Craft and model-making work
Digital artwork and graphic designs

Upon submitting their portfolio, candidates should also explain the ideas and process behind their prepared portfolio.

Add only your best work
Arrange all your creative works neatly and give a proper description.
It is good to add the idea behind the project to make it more detailed.
It is better to showcase a different set of skills rather than focusing on only one segment.
Don’t copy or replicate other designs from the internet or social media. It is advised to keep it original and neat.
Taking inspiration from other works is fine, but it’s better to add your own creativity and thoughts to the project.
As per the data available on the NID website, there is no official portfolio format released on the NID campuses. Candidates will have their own creative freedom to present their portfolio. It is advised to showcase their genuine creative work rather than trying to copy a perfect professional portfolio of someone else. Having imperfections is not an issue, but candidates should understand their ideas and should know the process behind every portfolio.
