After the Interaction and Counselling session (Online), qualified candidates need to appear for the Situation Test and Group Discussion. The AIEED Situation Test will be held between April 6-18, 2026. Candidates will be tested in either situation on the following topics and criteria.
A “situation test” in design-entrance exams usually involves giving candidates a creative challenge or prompt with some materials, and asking them to ideate or prototype a solution. For AIEED, based on the exam’s ethos (attitude, design thinking, multiple-solution generation), likely topics are:
Design Scenarios / Prompts
Candidates will have to work with everyday problem redesigns like redesigning a school bag or making a portable lamp. Spatial design prompts involve small studio or room concepts, or designing a micro-environment. There can be product design prompts as well, that need candidates to conceptualize a tool or device for a particular user or use-case.
Use of Given Materials
Candidates may be given simple materials (cardboard, paper, clay, threads, straws, etc.) to build or make a prototype.
Multiple Solutions
Focus is not on “one right answer” but how many meaningful or creative solutions you can generate. ARCH’s exam intent explicitly includes “situational thinking & problem solving that relies on actual application toward multiple possible solutions.”
User-Centric Thinking
Presentation / Explanation
You may need to present or explain your prototype or design. This will require the ability to defend or discuss multiple approaches.
The group discussion portion is meant to assess communication, collaboration, clarity of thought, design insight, and ability to articulate ideas in a group. Candidates can expect topics such as
Current trends in design (sustainable design, inclusive design, smart materials).
Role of design in society
Technology and design
Design education etc.
Candidates need to remember that clear communication is necessary in a Group Discussion. Ideas need to be articulated clearly and evidence or reasoning needs to be used when making an argument. Referring to real-world examples or use-cases can help. Active listening and responding while encouraging a consensus between different ideas can also prove vital.
The AIEED exam syllabus includes the most important topics for AIEED 2026 which the students must know to get a higher rank. The AIEED exam pattern and selection process must be known to the students so that they can prepare accordingly. The selection process of the AIEED entrance exam includes two steps that each student needs to qualify to get admissions.
