Time management is one of the most crucial aspects of the NID entrance exam and therefore experts have curated this article to help students get the time management tips for NID DAT 2027 preparation. The National Institute of Design Design Aptitude Test (NID DAT Prelims) is one of the most competitive design entrance examinations in India. Every year, thousands of aspirants compete for a limited number of seats, making strategic preparation as important as creative ability. Therefore, learning time management techniques during preparation is just as important. This article provides important time management tips and strategies to help students prepare efficiently for the NID 2027
Let’s first start by understanding the NID DAT 2027 Exam Pattern as given below to get a hang of what is asked in the NID prelims 2027:
As per the revised selection process , the NID DAT 2026 prelims result will not have any weightage in the final selection of candidates for B.Des and M.Des programmes. NID Mains exam will have 60% weightage for studio test and 40% weightage for in person interview for NID B.Des selection.
Sections | Type of questions | No of Questions in each section |
Part A | MCQs | 27 |
Part B | Subjective type | 4 |

It was seen in the NID 2026 question paper that it did not have any Part-A section and questions were only based on creative ability. All the questions were based on drawing and design thinking aptitude. Although NID is famous for its experimental format and uncertainty, we cannot say for sure that the NID 2027 Exam will not contain any Part-A based questions and therefore it is smart to prepare for both keeping drawing and design aptitude as main focus.
It is important for students to first go through and completely understand the NID Exam Syllabus to understand what type of questions usually come in NID Prelims exam:
Visualization and Spatial Ability
Perspective Drawing
3D Visualization
Geometric shapes
Composition and layout
Observation and Perception
Observation skills
Attention to detail
Interpretation of data and visual information
Design Thinking and Problem-Solving
Creative problem solving
Innovative thinking
Understanding and applying design principles
Students should also check:
Even though the NID 2026 Exam did not have any Part-A questions, with NID’s experimental and unpredictable nature we cannot say with certainty that the NID 2027 Prelims exam will follow the same pattern. Therefore until there is an announcement by the NID, students are advised to prepare for time management for Part-A section as well.
Following are some important time management tips as explained by experts to help students in NID exam:
As visualization is one of the most scoring topics for NID, try practising sketching and visual solutions within short time constraints daily. Make simple sketches with minimal details and try new ways to make them visually interesting. Daily practice will generate new ideas and make students fast in thinking of a design solution during the actual exam.
Students are advised to first take references and draw details by watching the object in front of them to refine their form understanding and make observation power for details stronger. Regularly practicing sketches and compositions through memory will enhance ability in students to come up with realistic sketches fast in the exam.
Develop and become a pro at generating original and innovative concepts and for workable designs. Create new ideas for already existing problem statements and take regular feedback for improvement. Also refer to How to Score Well in NID DAT Drawing Section.
Solve 2D and 3D objects and spaces related questions to understand what seems difficult. Take objects in real physical state and practice to understand how they can change with manipulation to understand visualization.
A lot of questions in NID Prelims are from the General Knowledge section. Start with reading and watching daily news and news articles with learning topics like names of important people, dates and logos, paintings and cultures from different brands and art movements.
It is one of the most important exercises for students preparing for the NID DAT exam to solve NID sample papers and NID mock tests as it would develop the understanding of the language of the paper.
Students are also advised to go through NID B.Des Previous Years Question Papers with Solutions for better understanding of the question paper and get Most Asked Questions in NID prelims through analysis of past papers.
