1. Sabyasachi Mukherjee

Sabyasachi Mukherjee, one of the prominent National Institute of Fashion Technology - NIFT notable alumni, was born on 23 February 1974 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He received the Best Designer of Hindustan at the MTV Lycra style awards. This NIFT Delhi alumni got the opportunity to showcase at Italy’s indigenous fashion Milan Fashion Week 2004. He completed his graduation at the National Institute of Fashion Technology Delhi in 1999. Sabyasachi currently serves as one of the Associate Designer Members of Fashion Design Council of India and the youngest board member of the National Museum of Indian Cinema. 2. Gulshan Devaiah

Gulshan Devaiah is an Indian who primarily works in Hindi films, born on 28 May 1978 in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. He is one of the popular NIFT Bangalore alumni who has achieved success in acting. He has played many significant roles in films such as Shaitan, Hate Story, and Hunterrr. For his role in Shaitan, he received critical acclaim and also earned him a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He also made a appearance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s romantic-tragedy film Ram-Leela, where he played the role of Bhavani.

3. Prabal Gurung

Prabal Gurung, NIFT Delhi alumni, was born on March 31, 1979, in Singapore to Nepali parents and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal. This NIFT notable alumni is a fashion designer based in New York City. He released his own collection under the name PRABAL GURUNG during Fashion Week in February 2009 with the FLAG ART Collection. Furthermore, he has designed costumes for some famous personalities such as the first lady of the United States Michelle Obama and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton. Prabal received various accolades and recognitions which includes the CFDA Swarovski Award for Womenswear (2011) and the Drawing Award from the Creativity Center (2015).

4. Nikita Anand

Nikita Anand is a National Institute of Fashion Technology - NIFT notable alumni, born in 1983 in Jalandhar, Punjab, India. She is an Indian actress, TV host, model, and beauty pageant titleholder. Nikita was crowned Miss India Universe 2003. Moreover, she also represented India at Miss Universe 2003. She made her debut film appearance in Dil Dosti Etc.

5. Ritu Beri

Ritu Beri, the NIFT Delhi Alumni, is an Indian fashion designer. She was born on 3 May 1972 in New Delhi, India. She served as an advisor to the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). In March 2002, she was appointed as the head of the Ready to Wear section of French fashion brand, Jeans-Louis Scherrer. She has her own collection under the label “Ritu Beri.” Ritu is currently an advisor to Rishihood University.

6. JJ Valaya

Another popular name in the NIFT alumni list, JJ Valaya, was born on 8 October 1967 in Jodhpur, India. He is a well-known Indian fashion designer and couturier. In 1992, he founded the House of Valaya, a luxury fashion and lifestyle house, with his brother TJ Singh. Aside from that, he is also a founding member of Fashion Design Council of India and the first global brand ambassador of Crystal giant Swarovski.

7. Govind Kumar Singh

Govind Kumar Singh, the NIFT Bangalore alumni, is an Indian fashion designer from the Supaul district of Bihar. Apart from his designing career, he has also appeared in two series of Let’s Design, a television reality show, aired on Zoom, and won the 2011 series. Govind received the Creative and Innovative Design Collection Award in 2010 in the NIFT Graduation Fashion show.

8. Nikunj Malik

Nikunj Malik is one of the National Institute of Design notable alumni. She is an actress and TV personality born on 30 October 1989 in Gurgaon, Haryana, India. She made her debut appearance as a contestant on the Indian reality wedding show, Rahul Dulhaniya le Jayega which first aired on NDTV Imagine on 1 February 2011. Nikunj completed her graduation and post-graduation at the National Institute of Fashion Technology specialising in footwear designing.

9. Manish Arora

Manish Arora, another notable NIFT alumni Delhi has made significant contributions in the fashion industry. He was born and brought up in Mumbai. He launched his own label “Manish Arora” in 1997. He served as a creative director of the womenswear collection of the French fashion house Paco Rabanne from 2011 to 2012.

Hello aspirant,

The nationwide Institute of Fashion Technology offers a nationwide entrance exam called NIFT for admission to its fashion design programmes.

Every course has specific requirements that must be met in order to apply. For NIFT, there is no minimum age requirement, however it is evident that passing the 10+2 exam is a requirement in order to be admitted to any undergraduate programme in fashion design.


You cannot be admitted because you are in class eleven. However, you can apply to NIFT for experience and practice, and if your application is accepted, you can take the entrance exam. If you pass, however, be aware that you will not be able to retain your results for admission.

Yes! If you want to pursue your under graduation from nift after 12th or even if you are appearing for12th exam then you are eligible to apply for the exam. There are several courses offered by nift which includes undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes.


Age (Undergraduate degree programmes) -

  • General - the maximum age should be less than 24 years as on 1st august in the year of examination
  • Reserved category - 5 years relaxation

NIFT 2023 ELIGIBILITY - B.DES admission

1. Aspiring students must have completed a 10+2 board exam from any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education/State Board New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi or,

2. Any Board/Public School/University Examination conducted in India or abroad which is equivalent to the 10+2 system and is accorded by the Association of Indian Universities or,

3. If candidates complete the General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Sri Lanka/ Cambridge/) at the Advanced (A) level/International Baccalaureate (IB) then, they are eligible to apply or,

4. Students will also be eligible if they have passed the 10+2 examination conducted by the National Open School with at least five subjects or,

5. Diploma of 3 or 4 years which is recognized by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education.

Age limit - Candidates must be of 23 years of age as of August 1, 2022. However, candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Person With Disability (PHP) get a relaxation of 5 years

Eligibility for B.F.Tech admission

1. Students must pass the Class 12 exam in the 10+2 pattern of examination with Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects from any recognized Central/ State Board of Secondary Examination, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi, and Council for Indian School of Certificate Examination, New Delhi or,

2. Any Public School/Board/University Exam in India or in foreign countries which is equivalent to a 10+2 system with Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics as a mandatory subjects. It must be recognized by the Association of Indian Universities or,

3. General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination(London/ Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at the advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics/International Baccalaureate (IB) or,

4. Diploma of 3 or 4 years in any programme of engineering which is recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education or,

5. A passing grade in the Higher Secondary Education Examination held by the National Open School with at least five subjects - Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics

Age limit is same as B.des

For BVoc courses in interior design, separate entrance exams are conducted by the concerned colleges. By giving NIFT you can only get admission in BDes and MDes courses in NIFTs and some other participating institutes.

In 2022 NIFT Entrance Examination was conducted in 32 cities. The candidates have to select the preference of the examination cities while filling the application form. Based on the availability, preferences of the examination cities you will be allotted an examination center. You have to appear for NIFT Entrance Examination in the allotted examination center as per the given schedule. You can select any city where examination is conducted while filling your preferences, make sure that you select the cities such that you can commute on the day of examination easily. Next year the list of examination cities may increase or decrease, the cities may vary.
