Hey aspiring students! For many Indian designers, passing the UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examinations for Design) is a dream. To succeed on the UCEED exam, students must comprehend the syllabus and exam patterns in order to develop study techniques for high-scoring sections. It is very important for students before starting with their preparation journey to first understand the UCEED exam thoroughly in order to understand the different aspects of the exam. UCEED 2027 syllabus and UCEED 2027 exam pattern is given below:
The UCEED exam consists of 2 main papers- Part A and Part B where Part A (Computer-based with NAT, MSQ, MCQ) evaluates logical reasoning, general knowledge, analytical aptitude and spatial reasoning of the students and Part-B (Drawing and design aptitude) evaluates students creativity and innovation skills with design thinking ability.
Part A consists of 200 marks and the time allotted is 120 minutes. As per UCEED exam pattern, this section comprises of
NAT (Numerical Answer Type questions) - No Negative marking
MSQs (Multiple Select Questions): Negative marking of -1 with partial marking system (+1 to +4)
MCQs ( Multiple Choice Questions): Negative marking of -0.71
Part B consists of 100 marks and the time allotted is 60 minutes. It is important to remember by the students that Part B of the UCEED question paper gets only checked if they have cleared the Part-A of the exam. As per UCEED exam format, this section consists of 2 sketching questions, with 50 marks for each. This section has been added to UCEED entrance exam in recent years to test aspirants’ sketching and visualization abilities and is hence very important.

This section has seen to have the highest weightage over the last 5 UCEED question papers and therefore is most important for students.
Importance of Part B (Drawing/Creative) :
Increased emphasis from UCEED 2024 (two questions,100 marks) makes strong drawing and creative skills are critical.
Environmental and Social Awareness:
Importance of Environmental and Social Awareness in recent UCEED question papers has seen making it a high weightage section.
Evolution of the MSQ Marking Scheme :
The introduction of the Partial Marking system was introduced in UCEED exam 2023 rewarding the importance of detailed understanding.

The NAT section of the UCEED exam with no negative marking is important and must be attempted. Important topics for UCEED 2027 exam in the NAT section are given below:
Fundamental of Mathematics and Geometry : Basics of mathematics(Areas, comparison of areas,percentage, Ratios and algebra) and geometry(Areas, volumes and perimeter based questions) asked frequently.
Logical Reasoning and Puzzle : Analytical Thinking, Series Completion(both Numerical and Figure based), Coding-Decoding and logical deductions have been asked frequently.
Spatial Aptitude and 3D Visualisation : Visualising the Volumes in 3D space, Counting the surfaces for the given figures, Identifying the matched pairs, Understanding the Effects of mechanical operations like Cutting/Drilling of solids.
The MSQ section of the UCEED exam is most challenging with multiple correct answers and negative marking, making it a little complicated section to attempt for students. This section also carries a partial marking system as the pattern was changed in UCEED 2023 where students can score marks from 1-4 based on correct options chosen making it a little easy for students to attempt. Important topics MSQ section are as follows:
Visual Reasoning and Pattern Identification : Transformations (Rotation and Reflection), Identifying the Hidden Patterns ,and completing the visual sequences. Paper folding and views are most frequently asked.
Design General Knowledge And General Awareness : Logo identification, Famous designers, artists, painters etc. Art movement, art history, and current affairs related to design, architecture, culture and heritage, technology
Analytical Reasoning : Deduction of the information, analysing the scenarios, and solving logical puzzles.
MCQ’s section for the UCEED exam has one correct answer, and negative marking thus accuracy becomes critical to score. Important topics for UCEED 2027 exam for MCQ section are given below:
Design Theories and Principles : Understanding and Application of the fundamental design principles, like balance contrast, Rule of Thirds, Compositions, Colour Theory and forms etc.
English Language and Comprehension : Verbal Ability, Vocabulary Grammar, and Reading Comprehension
Fundamentals of Science and Technology : Fundamental concepts and application from the Science’, like working principles, Manufacturing Process etc.
