    The National Institute of Fashion Technology will notify the NIFT B.Des selection process on its official website - nift.ac.in in its admission prospectus. The NIFT B.Des selection process comprises the NIFT entrance exam and the NIFT situation test. Candidates who applied for the B.Des programmes in NIFT 2026 have to appear for both GAT and CAT.     The NIFT admissions will be offered into 19 campuses across India through the centralised NIFT counselling conducted by the institute.

    NIFT B.Des Selection Process

    Candidates applying for B.Des have to appear for three components, namely:

    • General Ability Test (Section A)

    • Creative Ability Test

    • Situation test.

    Based on the NIFT entrance exam result, candidates will be shortlisted for the situation test. The NIFT schedule for the exam and the situation test will be notified on the institute’s official website.

    NIFT General Ability Test (Section A)

    The NIFT GAT syllabus for section A evaluates candidates on their logical and analytical ability, quantitative aptitude, English comprehension, and GK.

    NIFT Creative Ability Test (CAT)

    The NIFT CAT syllabus evaluates the candidate’s intuitive ability, observation power in concept development, and design ability. Candidates will be required to employ creative and innovative colors and illustrations in their work.

    Candidates should not disclose their identity in any way through their design during the CAT. Such candidates will be disqualified from the NIFT B.Des selection process.

    NIFT B.Des Situation Test

    The NIFT situation test is the final stage in the NIFT B.Des selection process. Candidates who are shortlisted from the entrance exam will be called to attend the selection process. The NIFT situation test weightage is important for B.Des selection, and candidates have to compulsorily attend the test.

    The situation test is a hands-on evaluation of a candidate’s ability in material handling and innovative thinking in a given situation. Candidates are required to use only the given material and will be judged on the spot by a jury. The candidate will be asked to create a model which will be evaluated on the following parameters -

    • Space visualization

    • Innovative and creative use of the given material

    • Composition of elements

    • Colour scheme

    • Construction skill,

    • Finesse of the model

    • Overall presentation
