Hello students! Scoring 70+ marks in the UCEED 2027, in the Part-B is a strategic approach, but not producing the picture perfect images. It is an attempt of a blossoming designer to make the evaluator understand your observation, viewpoint, idea and problem solving skills.
Under the UCEED 2027 exam part-B (last brochure 2026), it holded a weightage of 100 marks with a time limit of 60 minutes. There were two questions for 50 marks each based on sketching and design aptitude. But the bigger question is what is the most competent model for preparation to cut-off merit and score maximum in section-B.

This article is a strategic guide and framework to excel in section-B with more than 70 marks, which is considered to be a safe limit for cracking the exam.
There are a couple of things that come from schooling and some things where we lack the right knowledge and believe the incomplete assessments of others work, where we look at the work of other students already in the top D-schools and other professionals, with a belief that right answers are perfectly executed.

Achieving 70+ is not challenging, if you focus on doing the right things as a part of your practice in your preparation itself according to the UCEED 2027 syllabus and UCEED 2027 exam pattern. A border perspective should be 50/50 perfection, where its objective is to score 35-38 in Design Aptitude and 35-38 in the sketching based question.
We would be discussing the strategy one by one to balance your efforts for both design Aptitude and Sketching based questions.
Let’s try to understand with a sample question and deconstruct the elements for approaching the question for UCEED preparation.

Deconstructing the Elements :
1. Viewer : The Chair
2. Eye Level : Below Waist-Level
3. Setting : Casual with a home environment
4. Compulsory Detail : Capturing the perspective to show all three stakeholders
5. Time of Day and Lighting : Afternoon (Bright ambient light)
If you can successfully capture the elements post deconstructing into the sketch you are done for the question. Below we are sharing the sketched sample for better understanding.

It is observed that composition done using the “Rule of Thirds” vs. the composition done ignoring the rule, seems floating, unstable, weak and incomplete. To score a week your drawing skills should have the command of space. This understanding will help you bring the visual weight and attention to the drawing.
The Rule of Thirds : The rule of thirds is a simple composition guideline that divides the canvas into nine equal parts by two equally spaced horizontal and vertical lines, and the subject is aligned at the four corners intersections, creating a sense of emphasis at these points in a composition.
The four points intersections are called “points of interests” or focal points. The human eye naturally tends to land at these points first.

UCEED from the previous 03 years have been focussed on the question that demands a clear structured thinking to approach. The facts and the logic should be in place if you are approaching the design based questions as been asked from last 03 years using the U-P-S-E method as follows:
U : User (who are we proposing the solution for)
P: Problem (What challenge of him/her is to be overtaken)
S: Solution (What could be the most feasible and practical solution)
E : Evidence (Propose in visuals the working that is practical)
Students should solve UCEED previous year questions as it familiarizes students with exam patterns, language of the questions and hence builds confidence with the UCEED exam.
Let’s try to understand this with the UCEED Question as asked in 2024.

In the above question, we apply the U-P-S-E Method:
Context | Detail | Design Action |
U (User) | A 06 year old girl child going to school first time (to note) | The solution should have the proper grip and simple open-close mechanism. |
P(Problem) | Not necessary a problem always sometimes the ergonomics and need of a design solution | Indian Food : Which may be flowy, wet with gravy as this is traditional food do the lunch box should have air tight compartments |
S(Solution) | Out of many ideas what are the possible solutions | Ideation is the process where you choose the most logical solution out of the multiple solutions ,like the correct CMF |
E(Evidence) | Create views how the food is being preserved without mixing | Show the exploded views, section view and necessary annotations for making to understand the solution functionality |
Before jumping to any solution follow the below approach controlling the urge to reflect promptly, which is not a right decision and often leads to waste of valuable time.
Distribute your time into 50/50 for total time limit of execution for both drawing based question and design aptitude based question
For Drawing and Design Based Question : 30 mins time distribution

First 03 mins : Read both questions and underline the constraints
Next 03 mins : Quick thinking and thumbnail solutions
Last 22 mins : Final execution, drawing ,annotations and checking.
Make sure you follow the U-P-S-E model in your thinking to make sure that you do the justice with the question.
Scoring good in any exam is not about being born with artistic talent, rather how you shape and sharpen your senses for developing an eye for observation, perspective and time management. It is essential to devote a good time in analysing your sketches thoughtfully for fixing the technical errors. YOu need to follow or develop your own frameworks, methodologies and bring this in your core practice so that at the last moment you have a hard core plan and method to execute for a wider spectrum of design reflections. Remember clarity in action translates into clarity of lines.
