The NIFT admissions 2026 will be done based on the candidates' NIFT rank as well as the college preferences given by the candidates during the NIFT 2026 counselling process.
The NIFT tie-breaker rule is an important part of the NIFT seat allotment process. In cases of close calls, where two or more candidates have obtained the same scores, candidates will be offered the seats as per their rank decided by the tiebreaker rule. Familiarising oneself with the tie-breaking procedure will also help candidates focusing on those areas in the entrance exam which carry more weightage and help them rank ahead in such close situations.
The following is the NIFT tie-breaker criteria for ranking the candidates -
When two candidates have obtained equal scores, then the marks scored in tests with higher weightages in the selection process will be used to break the tie.
For example, if two candidates who appeared for the NIFT B.Des exam have scored equal marks, then the marks obtained in the CAT exam will be compared, as CAT carries higher weight in the NIFT B.Des selection process.
If the marks obtained in the CAT exam are also the same then the marks scored in the GAT exam will be taken into consideration.
If the tie persists, then the marks obtained subject-wise in GAT in the following order will be considered:
Communication Ability
English Comprehension
Quantitative Ability
Analytical Ability
General Knowledge and
Current Affairs
