The National Institute of Design is counted among the top design colleges in India. There are 7 NID campuses in India located at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Gandhinagar, Kurukshetra, Bhopal, Vijayawada, and Jorhat. The NID colleges in India offer B.Des and M.Des programmes. However, it must be noted that the M.Des programme is offered only by NID Ahmedabad, NID Gandhinagar, and NID Bengaluru. The NID B.Des programme is offered by NID Ahmedabad, NID Kurukshetra, NID Bhopal, NID Vijayawada, and NID Jorhat. The NID admissions are done based on the candidate's performance in the NID entrance exam, which consists of NID DAT prelims and NID DAT mains.

The NID selection process consists of two components - NID DAT prelims and NID DAT mains. Shortlisted candidates from NID prelims have to appear for NID mains. The NID prelims is a qualifying exam and its marks will not be carried forward into the NID mains. For final selection, only marks in NID mains will be considered.
