With only a few days to go, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) entrance exam is conducted across 32 cities in India. The test is held for admissions to a total of 3590seats across Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) and Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F.Tech.) programmes across 16 campuses of the Institute.As the D-day is nearing, it becomes essential for the future designers to know NIFT entrance exam last minute preparation tips as well as important things to carry to the test centre. Nearly 22,000 aspirants are expected to appear for NIFT entrance exam.

NIFT Entrance Exam 2020 Timings

For 2020 admissions, NIFT entrance exam is scheduled to be held on January 19 as per the following timings:

Test-takers should reach the NIFT exam centre at least half an hour before the commencement of the test. No one will be allowed to enter the examination hall after the specified time.

Important things to carry for NIFT entrance exam

NIFT Admit Card- A clear printout of the downloaded admit card of NIFT entrance exam has to be carried to the allotted exam centre. It displays candidate’s name, roll number and test venue details. No candidate will be allowed to enter the examination hall without a valid admit card.

Stationery -Test-takers are required to carry their own stationary items to the NIFT exam centre. Those appearing for B.F.Tech. admissions need to carry following-

  • Pencil

  • Eraser

  • Ballpoint pen

Candidates appearing for B.Des. admissions should carry following items with them-

  • Eraser

  • Ruler

  • Sharpener

  • Lead pencils (of varying grades)

  • Ball point pen (for marking answers in the OMR sheet)

  • Dry colours (oil pastels/colour pencils/sketch pens, etc.)

Wrist Watch- Carrying an accurate wrist watch for the exam is recommended as this will help in ensuring that the candidate sticks to the time strategy devised by him/her before attempting the test paper. However, it has to be ensured that the watch doesn’t have any calculator because it is not allowed.

“Mobiles and other infotech gadgets are not allowed inside the examination centre. Candidates found with mobile or other infotech gadgets will be asked to leave the examination centre and shall be disqualified”, informs the official website of NIFT.


Last minute preparation tips for NIFT entrance exam

Develop time management strategy-In the remaining days, candidates should work on developing a time management strategy keeping in mind their weak and strong areas. Specific time duration should be allotted for solving each question, and candidates should stick to it. This will aid in completing the exam on time. Moreover, it is a wise thing to move on to the next question if one finds himself/herself getting stuck on a particular question. Such troublesome questions should be revisited at the end of the exam.

Solve NIFT entrance exam sample papers-Trying to attempt maximum number of practice papers, mock tests and previous years’ question papers is essential. This will help in formulation of a plan regarding how a candidate should go about solving the actual exam paper. He/she can also understand the exam pattern and format of questions asked in the exam. Moreover, practising the model test papers will help the aspirants in knowing their strong and weak areas. This knowledge can be utilised while attempting the NIFT test paper.

Brush-up sketching skills- Candidates appearing for B.Des. entrance test should practise sketching as much as possible. The Creative Ability Test (CAT) will have questions that will evaluate the test-takers on their intuitive ability, power of observation in concept development, and design ability. Thus, having good sketching skills is vital, and candidates should definitely work on this in the remaining days.

Being unconventional to use your imagination and original ideas to create something is a prerequisite to clear this exam. You should have the ability to come up with unique ideas to design something new. Furthermore, taking care of your health and fitness during the preparation period and examination time is equally important. Writing such entrance exams needs a high level of concentration and stamina, and that is only possible if you are in sound physical and mental condition.

NIFT Situation Test or GD/PI Dates: Candidates who clear NIFT entrance exam for BDes course admission then need to appear for the Situation Test round wherein their material handling skills are tested. On the other hand, aspirants taking the design entrance exam for MDes course admission need to appear for the Group Discussion/Personal Interview round. Can I use any drawing board or any type of boards in nift entrance exam ??

Hi there,

From my research, candidates are not allowed to carry any aditional materials in NIFT exam.

The pattern of the exam is

There is an creative ability test and General ability test and situation test.

CAT exam is for 3 hours with 100 marks and GAT exam is for 2 hours with 100 questions.Selected candidates has to appear in situation test which test the ability of the candidates.

Riyaz, the last daybfor filling NIFT applications was closed on December 31st, 2019 and the admit cards were released on January 10th, 2020. Now unfortunately, it is too late for trying for 2020. Once the admit cards have been released, it is impossible to fill in an application form for the entrance examination.
