NID 2026 Tie-Breaking Rule: How It Works and What You Need to Know

The National Institute of Design will notify the revised the NID 2026 tie-breaking rule on its official website - admissions.nid.edu. The NID 2026 tie-breaker rule will be used to rank the candidates if two or more candidates obtain the same score in the NID DAT result. The NID selection process has undergone a change due to the revised weightage being assigned to the prelims and mains result. The authorities prescribe a separate tie-breaker rule for the two parts of NID DAT 2026 - prelims and mains. Further, there are separate tie-breaker rules for the NID entrance exam and the NID M.Des entrance exam. In this article, let's look at how the NID 2026 tie-breaker rule works.

As per the NID 2026 selection process, candidates first appear for the NID DAT prelims. The shortlisted candidates then appear for the NID DAT mains. The final NID admissions are done based on the score of the mains exam. The prelims score will not have any weightage and is only a qualifying exam in the selection process.

The NID 2026 prelims tie breaker policy has not been released yet.
As per last year, when the total number of marks in NID DAT scored by two or more candidates is the same, the following tie-breaking rule was be applied to award the ranks to the students:
Tie-Breaking Rule for NID DAT Prelims B.Des Result
- The higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has scored higher marks in part B of the DAT prelims exam.
- If this doesn’t break the tie, a higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has scored higher marks in part A of the DAT prelims exam.
- If this still doesn’t break the tie, then both candidates will be given the same rank.
Tie-Breaking Rule for NID DAT Prelims MDes Result
- The higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has scored higher marks in DAT Prelims (Part II / Part III).
- If this does not break the tie, the higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has scored higher marks in DAT Prelims (part I).
- If this still doesn't break the tie, both the candidates will be assigned the same rank.

NID 2026 Tie-Breaking Rule for Mains Result
The NID DAT 2026 tie breaking policy for mains has not been released yet.
As per last year, if the total number of marks scored by two or more candidates is the same, the following tie-breaking policy was applied for awarding ranks in the final merit list:
Tie-Breaking Rule for NID DAT Mains B.Des Result
- The higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has secured higher marks in the DAT Mains.
- If this does not break the tie, a higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has scored a higher mark in the Stage 1 Design Aptitude Test.
- If this doesn’t break the tie, higher rank will be assigned to the candidate who has scored higher marks in Stage 1 Design Aptitude Test Part B.
- If this still does not break the tie, the highest rank will be assigned to the candidate who has scored higher marks in Stage 1 Design Aptitude Test Part A.
Tie-Breaking Rule for NID DAT Mains M.Des Result
- The highest rank will be given to the candidate who has scored higher marks in the DAT mains exam.
- If this does not break the tie, the highest rank will be given to the candidate who has scored higher marks in DAT Mains - Studio Test.
- If this does not break the tie, a higher rank will be given to the candidate who has scored higher marks in DAT Prelims exam.
- If this still does not break the tie, the same rank will be given to both candidates.

As 563 rank in nid dat exam cannot guarantee admission in designing college but it could be a good chance to explore some campus as if you are not from general category as category role plays an important role . But now you can do one thing focus on your strengthening your protofile or preparing for the studio test (bdes) or interview (mdes).

No, IPU (Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University) does not accept NID DAT Prelims score for admission to the B.Des (Bachelor of Design) program.
