This article will begin with a brief review of the most recent format changes. The official answer key was released by UCEED on January 29, 2025. Lately, the focus has shifted to reflective analysis utilizing situation-based questions and sketching skills. Passing the UCEED 2026 exam now requires effective time management. To do this, we must emphasize the skill set that encapsulates the Design/Problem-Solving Approach while taking into account the need for new formats.
According to the UCEED Exam Pattern 2025, it is a computer-based online examination consisting primarily of two parts:
UCEED Part A (120 mins & 200 Marks)
UCEED Part B (60 mins & 100 marks)
The UCEED PART-A (investigates the imaginative and visualization-based skills through perceived information in a person through given questions. Anyone who aspires to be a designer should understand the intention of design, which is more problem-solving with a sense of aesthetics, function, etc.)

As per the UCEED syllabus 2025, and the last 5-year question paper trends, the evaluation process focuses broadly on 04 significant themes with the following.
Patterns and Visual Relationships (20-25%)
Mapping, Spatial & Mechanical Reasoning (30-35%)
Understanding of Scale and Proportions (25-30%)
Visual Information and Drawing Conclusions(25-35%)
*Note: The weightage mentioned keeps changing every year, but the intention of evaluation remains almost constant.
Example 01: Patterns & Visual Relationship
Carefully look at the images and figure out the mirror image of the given option.
A question like this is based on either a Water Image or a Mirror Image and evaluates the individual's ability to Spatial reasoning and visualization skills in context to 2D spaces. The ability depends on an Individual’s Attention to Detail, which in the long run is a crucial skill set of a designer from concept development to execution in Industry.
Example 02: Relative Motions
A question like this needs a visually logic-based approach to imagine the relative gear rotations(fundamental logic-based Mechanical Skills) and their impact on connected objects. Again, these types of questions look for a good understanding of spatial reasoning skills along with the ability to apply simple concepts of relative motion we learned at the intermediate level.
This part investigates imaginative visualisation-based skills through Reflection on given questions/situations.
So, what is reflection-based evaluation?
It answers the major questions asked below.
How do you see the visual information in your narration?
How do you think out of the box in a limited time?
How do you imagine the subject and its surroundings?
How do you relate between two different subjects?
Let’s try to understand what the Reflection-Based approach is through a question.
Example-03
Using the visual clue from the box on the left, you must make something meaningful in the given box on the right side.
Solution: To answer a question like this, one should think critically and reflect without changing the orientation, sketching something around the given hint. In the given solution, the candidate used the curved lines as a hint to develop the face of a goddess around the lines.
Theme: “The Empoweress” or “The Durga”
Sketching is the necessary mode of communication in such questions, but what to bring around the given hint is subjective based on an individual's understanding and reflection.
1. How to Develop Observation Skills in Everyday Life?
Answer - This is sometimes an inherited quality of an individual, but it could also be developed over time through practices like asking critically fundamental questions and looking at everyday things.
Example: Why is the handle of a cloth-iron in this shape?
Why is the base of the cloth-iron in the form of a triangle?
Why is the colour of cloth irons usually subtle but not bright?
2. How can sketching skills for Part-B, UCEED 2026 be improved?
Answer - Sketching is a crucial skill for the reflection-based question asked in Part B, and one can start by practising the straight horizontal and vertical lines on newspapers every day for a minimum of 15 minutes. Once enough confidence is built, one should begin to gradually practice complex geometrical shapes like circles, hexagons, pentagons, etc.
3. How do you prepare for the Awareness questions?
Answer - General awareness is an important topic not only from MCQ-based questions but also from the overall happenings globally in terms of culture, society, economics, design, and technology. The emerging topics could also be used as situations to reflect on questions given in section B.
Primarily, the syllabus covers the knowledge from fundamentals of the technical and non-technical topics from high school and intermediate. However, some important topics could be as follows:
Sections of UCEED | List of Few Important Topics |
Quantitative-Aptitude |
|
Analytical Reasoning (Based on judgements made on statements) |
|
Non-Verbal Reasoning (Visual-based judgements are based on given hints.) |
|

Below is the list of certain recommended books for UCEED 2025 that can help students prepare for the exam. The list is as follows:
Name of the Book | Author's Name |
UCEED (BDes) Entrance Books and Test Series | AFA India |
Analytical Reasoning, Mental Aptitude, Verbal Aptitude (UCEED Guide) | Institute Of Creative Sciences |
Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning | RS Aggarwal |
Quantitative Aptitude | RS Aggarwal |
UCEED Design Environment & Social Awareness In Design Perspective Combined With Mental & Verbal Aptitude | Sreeja Shilpa |
Over the last 5 years, the UCEED exam has maintained its consistency with its exam pattern across its sections. Each year the UCEED exam has shown slight variation in the Analytical Reasoning section and Environmental Issues specifically in UCEED exam 2023 and UCEED 2020 respectively. The more frequent questions over the last 5 years have been asked majorly from the sections Visualization and Spatial Ability, Observation and Design Sensitivity, Environmental and Social Awareness, Analytical and Logical Reasoning, Language and Creativity, and Design Thinking and Problem Solving. In addition, UCCED has always maintained its difficulty level throughout these years. Hello!
UCEED is a competitive exam for design aspirants, testing design aptitude, logical thinking, creativity, and visualisation skills. To improve your score out of 300, start by understanding the exam pattern—Part A (objective) and Part B (subjective). For Part A, practice reasoning, numerical aptitude, and environmental & social awareness questions. For Part B, focus on drawing, sketching, and presenting your ideas clearly. Solve past year UCEED papers and join online mock test series. Spend at least 2–3 hours daily practising creative problem-solving and sketching. Also, work on time management because the exam requires quick thinking.
Thank you for reading, and I wish you the best
